One conspiracy theory, special thanks to Bartman for his observations that JH just wanted out.
He has massive issues with someone placed into a decent position at the Eels , could be he just didn't want to be around and deal with him

No idea if that's true, just a possible far out there thought

If he was going to leave because there was a f**kwit in the joint he'd have gone long before now. He'd probably have made his debut elsewhere.

if he left because he hated someone in the ranks than he would have moved to the dogs when they were offering him the world.

he obviously, genuinely believes he is good enough to make the NFL and he wants to try it.

Personally I don't think he has the attitude to do it. He was given a golden ticket by being an exceptionally talented footballer (rubgy league) and has basically been fed by the silver spoon ever since. He hasn't really had to work hard for anything. even in his best football moments everything done is so effortless. he was just blessed to be naturally a freak.

he actually has to work and work really hard if he wants to make it in the NFL. he is spending a lot of time back here in Australia doing 'training' when surely he'd be best suited over in America spending as much time as possible with people involved in the sport over there. I don't think he realises as a 27 year old he has got f**k all time to really learn NFL inside and out to get the respect of coaches in America.

I know im only taking a lot of this opinion from his social media activities and the fact he has spent more time in Australia than America since he left Parramatta, but I don't think he will make it. He wont have the edge needed to make a team and he wont learn it in Sydney.

Take it for what it's worth, but I know for a fact that prior to the 2014 off season Mr Bevis was shopping Hayne to Super 15 Teams with the Chiefs showing heavy interest but no agreement was reached . That must've been his long held dream that year.

Sounds to me like he's had enough of Rugby League full-stop for the time being, only time will tell if he misses it enough to come back down the track. Don't think it's anything personal against Parramatta I just hear he enjoys other things in life and unlike most in his position the dedication to rugby league 46 weeks a year isn't his be-all end-all right now....from what I hear.

Even he, and his management must know that the closest he'll get to an NFL contract is a training squad member. No way in hell he breaks into a 53 man final roster at 27 having never played the game. Absolutely no way in hell. He may at best provide high level competition as a fringe player in the summer before being cut and coming back here to have a year of Fifa comps.

Detroit Lions general manager Martin Mayhew has confirmed he is in talks with NRL convert Jarryd Hayne about joining the NFL team.
Mayhew was tight-lipped about the negotiations on Wednesday, but said “we are in dialogue right now” about Hayne’s future.
The Lions’ main priority is signing their star defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh to a long-term contract.
Mayhew addressed the media at the NFL’s combine in Indianapolis.
“Jarryd Hayne, the same thing,” said Mayhew, confirming the talks with Hayne and other potential Lions.
The 27-year-old 189cm tall, 100kg Hayne shocked the NRL last year when he announced he would walk away from a lucrative deal with the Parramatta Eels to pursue a career in the NFL.
Hayne has said he would like to play as a punt returner and wide receiver.
Hayne had meetings with the Seattle Seahawks and San Francisco 49ers and worked out in front of scouts for other NFL teams, but the Lions appear to be the frontrunners to sign him.

Why would they bother even looking at Hayne if there are faster, stronger, etcetera kids coming out of the college system, who have also played American football since they could walk?

What advantage could Hayne possibly have to even get a practice squad contract, if he is physically nothing special?

Novelty factor? Merchandise? Publicity? A following in Australia?

Fair points. Could be the best $100k they ever spent on marketing. But if he never takes the field nobody will care that he got a contract.

Did it bring any of the above when the NFL signed Colin Scotts and the likes? A country of 300 million people going gaga over a NRL star of which nobody there had ever heard of little alone NRL itself doesn't cut it. Novelty factor, maybe.

see previous comments from staff at the lions. they are willing to explore all options, much like when they sign carlin isles to a practice squad contract. athletically that guy is a dead set freak, but unfortunately lacks the size to play nfl, which is one thing hayne has.

Yeah but that's the point - Isles was physically superior to most (all?) NFL players when it came to speed. They wouldn't have even looked at him if he wasn't. And being a Yank he would certainly have played American football as a kid.

Is Isles that much of a "freak", though?

He's lightning, but for a small guy, he's not especially agile (I've seen him lose his footing while trying to step), and given his frame, he's not powerful.

Hayne, on the other hand...
