Jarryd Hayne v Ken Thornett

In 1964, Ken Thornett came to Parramatta from England, for seven games toward the end of the season. Parramatta, who previously had been the easybeats of the competition, won six of those seven games and drew one to make the semi finals for, I think, the first time. The following year, and for the next three seasons, Thornett played fullback for the whole year, and Parramatta made the finals all three years. Thornett made such an impact from fullback, that he was dubbed 'The Mayor of Parramatta'.
I believe Jarryd Hayne has a similar impact on the current Parramatta team. We have now won five in a row with Hayne at the back, and its looking as though history might repeat itself. If Hayne keeps this form up for the next few years, Thornett might go down in history as being the second best fullback Parramatta ever had. Behind Jarryd Hayne.
Ken Thornett was known as the Mayor of Parramatta - I propose Jarryd Hayne should be dubbed the 'Prince of Parramatta'. Dont you, H.J?

The freaky thing i realised last ngiht was that Hayne wasn't even going all out...
He was toying with the defence and blokes like wade mckinnon, if Hayne plays his cards right and continues to mature he has the potential to be Parra's greatest.

Over the past 3 months Hayne imo has taken the common fullbacks game to a new level, he has been involved in all parts, even the dirty work of hit-ups etc. at the young age of 21 Hayne is having more impact on one team and in the charge for the finals then i have ever seen in many yearss, much like blokes like the a johns.

Unbelieveable stuff...

I was only a kid when I saw Ken Thornett play in '64 but he made a huge impression because that was my first year of playing and I was visiting Sydney on school holidays (big smoke and all that). He was a tough guy, Hayne is just talented guy and as yet not consistent enough.

But in fact I thought his brother Dick was a bloody champion and nearly bawled with frustration travelling up from the Coast to see the 1970 Battle of Brisbane at Lang Park when Dick got smacked from behind by Mal Reilly in a melee.

Ridiculous thread.

How long did Thornett play for us and how long was he a consistent performer?

HaHa plays a half a season of decent football (with many lapses throughout that half a season) and all of a sudden everyone wants to blow her.

This is a perfect illustration of ridiculously imbecilic the vast majority of the population are.

You want her dubbed the Princess of Parra because we've won 5 games in a row? This is such a ridiculous notion that it boggles my mind. Wait 5-10 years and see how consistent HaHa has been and then maybe think about putting her up with the likes of Thornett.

It's way to early to make such a comparison, which really should only be made when Hayne hangs up his boots, hopefully at the end of a long Parramatta career.

we'll make him royalty .... and then IF he decides to leave for some other team/code/whatever, do what all good parra fans do - turn on him and have a public be-heading

Hayne must be doing something right if he is even being compated to Thornett, ATM he is making the game of RL look ridiculously easy. If he keeps playing the way he has been since his move to fullback there is no reason not to dig this thread up in a few years time.

This is crap , why can't we just applaud the guy for what he's doing atm and hope that he can continue it.
And not just for the rest of this year and hopefully the finals , but for the rest of his career.
PFFTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think any of HJ's comments on Hayne should just be disregarded as he clearly has an agenda.

HJ is a gronk, calling people he doesn't even no braindead idiots cos he reckons hes mad over the net.
He is a disgrace to be a parra fan.

HaHa has half a good season and is all of a sudden comparable to Thornett and I'm the disgrace?

Holy sh*t, it's pretty obvious that you're all braindead idiots with many being teenagers who wouldn't know a damned thing about the history of this great Club (that's you, lewis).

Yeah I've never gone to games, started chants, stuck up for the Club or taken abuse...

...never...

It's lovely when your point is continuingly proven for you by the people that are trying to oppose it, isn't it?
