Our forwards were gassed after seven minutes, we’d only had to defend three sets by that point. No one had made over five tackles in the game yet they were taking till tackle 4 to be back behind the ball. There is massive issues with our fitness.
JR had to curb their enthusiasm in the captains run on Sat...just goes to show what a pub team we have become again

From my perspective what we are seeing at the moment isn't a coaching issue. It's a reflection of the state of our roster.
We have too many guys in our side below 50 first grade games and due to injuries have lost a lot of experience but not only that we have guys in our side who wouldn't be playing NRL at this stage of their careers if ever.
The effort , attention to detail and application was first class v the Tigers which is all you can ask, but it seemed as though the players couldn't get back up and do it again 6 days later. Probably an emotional and physical let down. That's common across the league especially with young players but we are playing far too many inexperienced guys at once. I feel for the time being we are going to have games where our effort is right up and others its right off.
It's up to the leaders to be spot on and Mitch, Junior , Fox, Jack Williams, Kelma, Will Penisni , Dylan Walker , Brian Kelly, De Belin etc need to be up and about and doing everything right. Mitch kicking out on the full first set of the game, Junior might as well not be playing and Kelma , Kelly and Will have no idea how to even find consistency in their own games so its been a challenge. We need much more out of those senior guys. They need to go out and lead from the front and get the youngsters feeding off them. I think it's very hard to blame Ryles for individuals lack of effort, diligence, competitiveness and fight .. that's not what he's there to give you. Hopefully he weeds those who its a problem for out of his side and the club.

There is absolutely zero chance Ryles is sacked before mid-2027, and nor should there be.

Whilst he no doubt has to take responsibility for the poor defensive structures and players commitment - he certainly isn't responsible for us missing 7 players who would be in our top 17 every other week.

He's only 1 season into his coaching career.

I think we'd be stupid to even consider sacking him before the end of 2027.
He gutted the joint for too quick, end of story that all Ryles

He did say there was no spirit, that’s not an injury issue, this goes far deeper

sure, one of the poorest performances ive ever seen but firing the man, its too early. if at the conclusion of 27 and we are still an absolute mess then the idea has a lot more merrit.

I don't think the coaching is the issue at all.
Ive seen a number of players improve a lot over the first 12 months they were here, we've got an attack capable of scoring 30-40 points with a bog average backline.
He gets the opportunity to coach. Find out why the attitude and attention to defence sucks and take steps to fix it. Watching our games it seems to be individual defensive lapses, and losing contact and efforts in the middle rather than a big breakdown of our defensive system. Maybe he'll have to bring in players capable of doing the job when he gets the chance.
Some of those trys we conceded on the weekend faaark me . We had 3 blokes chase a kick down field . Kitiones effort was embarrassing. One of the worst ive ever seen in first grade. That's on individual accountability and concentration not the coach.

A good roster will always beat a poor one, and unfortunately that’s where we are . The forwards on Sunday were basically signed from reserve grade in the majority, the majority of the backs were just that, back ups.

The Tigers bit the bullet, spend decent to buy elite, promoted juniors and ensured they had fwds with size and decent pace. Our recruitment hasn’t been in the same postcode, little depth and elite for Ryles to work with, that’s being honest.

Which of you merkins would’ve been brave enough to go we don’t need Gutherson or RCG, but that Sivo bloke is a keeper?
I’m just saying we still needed some experience, I also found it odd that Ryles pushed footy Dean out as well, he’d b pretty handy right now…. I’m probably not very objective as I’m not a fan of Ryles

The Tigers have been doing this for years and sucked the entire time. Their current form (after only five games) is most likely just a flash in the pan. I remember merkins talking up how the Dragons had finally got it so right in 2018, and they haven't made the finals since.
