I'm sure parra think they're getting something out of it.

They got their first taste of the POs with blaize.
No they didn’t, because he didn’t use it, so for us it was inconsequential. Just like how RCG didn’t activate his option when he was last off contract. It’s a last resort option for injured players.
And I tell yah it would have been sour. It's only going to get more sour as the circus continues over text three offseasons
It’s certainly given fans something to piss and moan about. When we were winning no merkin cared.

They're an issue cause they tie up cap resources far beyond Nov 1. If the player had to elect to take the option any day up to Nov 1 then it wouldn't be an issue. But if dyl, matto and penisini all have POs similar to blaize then it's a huge problem.
It’s not a huge problem at all or the Storm wouldn’t have won the comp in the year of Welch’s player option. In the end he recovered from his injury and they had him cheaper than his offer from us.

And this points to another factor. If the PO was a no brainer from the perspective of the player he would take it up every time. But healthy players don’t, because player options are for unders. If they weren’t clubs wouldn’t agree to them for the reasons you’ve outlined.

It keeps us on the hook while the player looks at other options. If you had a PO wouldn't the rational thing do is explore the market????

You said to me we offered blaize a 1 year deal with a 1 year PO. How is that good practice?

POs are good for players who drop in form (or decline) after signing for those terms, and wouldn't get better if they shopped themselves around.

So it's good for lazy plodders, as long as injured players. It's not good business for a club, for the points Pazza is making.

The argument it keeps the contract down is rubbish, because everyone expects some wage growth, and so would have signed for that contract amount regardless of the PO, imo.

The Tigers have 1 PO 3 MO 1 CO

Panthers have zero options..... take from that what you will
This is what bartman would describe as selective stats. Why only mention those two? How about the club at the top of the table? There’s only 17 teams. If you want to imply causality you need to at least show correlation. But you won’t because you can’t.

Yeah of course. You’re not going to assume the player would take a pay cut. If you want him to stay you make an new offer when he has a year to run on his contract. Don’t assume he’ll take the PO on unders.

So Melbourne f**ked up agreeing to the Grant and Wishart POs?

I'm just making anecdotal observation. I'm not implying any sort of link between options and win rate or what ever.

Feel free to look at all the rosters in the nrl yourself https://signings-tracker.nrl.com/

The alternative was a one year contract without a PO but for more money. Or do you think he wanted a multi year deal on minimum salary?

Given the talent evaluation of comparing him to Dylan Brown. You give him a good deal. You give him the kinda deal that a 18 year old sg ball player and his family would be silly to refuse.

Honestly have you ever seen a contract like that before?

Melbourne don't have three highly paid players all coming off contract at the same time on POs they ain't that silly.

Here, you can read about the intentions of one of our stars who has a PO

Lol, f**king Penisini's on a PO as well 😂. We couldn't make up a situation so ludicrous if we tried.

He can walk out elsewhere imo - but Penisini's decline in form means he won't be able to get any higher than our apparently "lowball" PO offer.

Dylan, matterson and penisini have POs while lane and sivo have MOs

We are the canary in the coal mine for these sort of deals. It might not be a big deal or it might set the club back 5 years.

If his form continues on its current trajectory, hopefully the new coach might have a few home truths for him... He might not like it and f**k off....so be it. No more molly-coddling these Rhino juniors....
