First of all, this is a serious discussion.

What the hell is so good about Jason Ryles? Why is he so highly rated?

He is a sack of potatoes. Honestly.

Nutley is half his size but twice the player.

Get his jersey size now!...

I agree with you hybrid but the selectors don't! There are about 10 better front rowers than Ryles!

Nutley isn't what I was suggesting. I am specifically speaking of Ryles and not asking for replacements. Just why the hell is he rated...?

The only people that rate him are Dragons supporters and Bennett for some stupid reason!

He wears red and white every week.

That's why...

Ryles was on the field for fewer minutes than Steve Price, yet Ryles made more hitups and for more metres. Why isn't Price's position ever brought into question on this forum? Simple. Because the pervading opinion on this forum is that Ryles is over-rated. That opinion is bullsh*t, just like this thread is bullsh*t.

Price at his best is the best there is. Did you see Origin 1, he carried the team. Origin 2 and 3 were lost because he was not there.

Steven Price hasn't played much football recently. But you are preaching to the converted because I wouldn't have picked him. Or Civoneceva. Or Ryles.

The only "bullsh1t" is the fact that Jason Ryles is actually highly rated in the league world.

He is as soft as Sorbent and always has been.

He's good for breaking nails and for fashion tips.

Soon enough, Dropasaurus Galloway will be in the same role [useless, but overrated, and picked in rep squads]

He's highly rated because his work rate includes quality and quantity. He consistently gets over the advantage line, he can create second-phase play, he gets quick play the balls, he works hard in defence and rarely misses tackles.

And he is a sack. Consistently gets belted. Is slow and dead set soft. Goes missing when the tough work needs to be done.

Quality and quantity? FFS...

You're still offering nothing but dismissive platitudes and myths. Bullsh*t at it's finest.

Ryles stats from the bench tonight: 17 tackles, 12 hitups, 118 metres, 1 offload, 1 error, 0 missed tackles. Better than solid.

Give me all the stats in the world - Ryles is the most overrated player in the game.

Soft.

Ryles will never turn a match with a huge run like Webke, Price, Mason, Puletua etc.

He never stands up when needed.

All the whining in the world is not going to change a thing either. You're still wrong. I know you're upset that Skandalis didn't get picked - I would have picked him too. At the expense of Civoniceva, however. Perhaps if Australia didnt have so many old, out of form players on the field in the first 20 minutes the Kiwis would not have leapt away to such a good start. Nothing can be done about the loss now, of course - but it's particularly bold to blame it all on a bench player, especially one that has performed ok.

I am not talking about Skandalis at all. Personally, even though Skandalis has a great year, I don't consider him to be at the level of the likes of Bailey, Webcke etc.

Nor am I blaming Ryles for the defeat. I have simply never seen him stand up in a big game.

Stupid Stupid thread this one.

Those calling for O'Meley obviously did not see the first game last night. O'Meley was poor....shoulder charges big deal....
His defence lead to 18 points for the kiwi a side.

Ryles:
Came on when the score was 18-0 to the kiwis.
Went off with Australia up 22-18. Kiwis then score 14 points in 10 minutes.
Just a coincidence, I think not.

Stats have already been provided by another poster...I don't need to mention them again.
Ryles doesn't miss tackles, he makes metres with the ball, he can offload and create second phase play.
He has the intimidation factor which most of you who have never played the game wouldn't understand.
The players like playing in the same team as him, just look at the players polls about who is the toughest player etc...who you don't like playing against. Ryles name always comes up.
You people might like to think he is soft but the people who matter, the players don't think he is soft.

Have a close look at his game next week without the hatred in your eyes for him and see the amount of work the bloke does.
He would be in my team every day of the week.
