Jason Smith charged cocaine trafficking

Who wouldn't advise that at this stage.

This isn't ASADA though. This is actual law.

I wouldn't be surprised if they have a prima facie evidence.

The lawyer knows the evidence, if they couldn't fight this in court they'd bargain their way out of it. They obviously think the case is winnable.

Doesnt sound like anyone has actually been caught in "possession"...

Just a lot of phone calls, sms etc talking about it...

Cops will offer massive light sentence for them to roll over...

Realistically the vast vast vast majority of drug use escapes detection. Even cannabis which by its nature takes a long time to clear the system is gone in ~7 days for anyone but the heaviest users.

Nobody wants to believe it but steroid and other ped use is rife in pro sports. So a drug like cocaine where occasional use clears the body pretty quickly the athletes would have to be unlucky in the extreme to test positive. Obviously a sport like rugby league is going to be cleaner than say the Olympics where countries with no central drug testing agency win stacks of weight lifting gold medals *cough* Kazakhstan but there is big money in beating drug tests.

Which defence lawyer doesn't?

Just to be clear I don't see any jail time and I'm not sure anyobe does.

It's more about what suspension they will serve.

The problem with accepting a guilty plea for a light sentence is the ban they would then face from ASADA. Unless they are happy to sit out the 2 to 4 years of professional sport, they have to plead not guilty

Coje is great and harms nothing but your wallet
Whilst it's illegal though buying it makes you a stakeholder in some pretty horrible shit, from the bikies around here (which generally just hurt each other so whatever) to the people at the supply end of the chain overseas.

What do you all think the punishment will be?

I mean if Dell got 2 years for using, surely a charge of supply will mean a heavier penalty?
Well Dell was probably easier because he tested positive and thus was under WADA rules wasn't he?

No positive test, despite supply charge, probably muddy's the waters a bit with this lot.

Recreational drug use is rife in society, and especially those 18-30 year old males, with large disposable income... which just happens to be footy players

Im not about to stick the boot in here, no club is immune from this kind of "sting".
Yeah, definitely. Alot would still be kept out of the media's grasp I suspect

Red bear is correct because of the way coke is sourced. One is funding some pretty horrible stuff in Latin America. That said my legally purchased android phone is probably made in some horror factory that has suicide nets.

An early guilt plea for a first offence sure. But if you fight a supply charge and lose jail becomes a possibility. You don't fight it lightly. You fight it if you're confident you win.

From what has been said via the media, the minimum ban under the WADA Code for drug trafficking is a 4 year ban from all professional sport.

As to what will happen to the players from the Titans management, I wold not expect any of them to be playing come round 1. I would not be surprised if they wind up terminating their contracts. If they have breached their code of conduct provisions laid out in their contract, and a criminal charge for an offence which could lead to 12 months or longer in prison would qualify, the Titans would only have to meet the civil standard (i.e. probability of a breach) as opposed to the criminal standard (i.e. absolutely sure of a breach).

Bird, Taylor and Faifai Loa won't play round 1 because they wouldn't have fronted court yet. Who knows what will happen with Falloon as he was stood down until after he fronted court. But seeing as though he won't be training with the team in the lead up to the match and the fact his mind probably won't be on the game, it would be safer to leave him out too

You fight it because your a professional sportsman and your career is over if you admit drug use.

Your ascribing what Joe in the street would do, not what they would do.

Its different for everyone but its definitely not ages. In the hair maybe but in urine its a few days for most people.

I don't take Ings that seriously. His tweet was basically slamming the NRL testers for not testing the players on Tues after mad Monday

When are these idiots going to learn that if they are going to talk about bad things, they need to use the cone of silence or the old yoghurt containers and a piece of string. Cops can't tap a ski yoghurt container.

Yeah he seems to not have a clue about it. I got mates who are subject to testing when they are on the job(mining, rail) and if it stayed around for ages they wouldnt have jobs anymore, and half their co workers would be gone with them.
