We've got plenty of players who we can move on to make way for an increased Taumalolo contract. Bye bye Tamou, small contract extension for Hannant who will be a force again this year until Kaufusi to come of age. Bye bye Linnett, hello Javid Bowen. Bye Bye Coote, hello Santo or Morgan at FB. Bye bye King, hello Granville extension under his beloved Paul Green.

Anyone who thinks we won't be trying to pay Taumalolo top dollar to stay has no idea. If he still decides to go, good luck to him. He doesn't owe us Cowboys fans anything and wherever he ends up, I know he'll carve up!

Kane Linnett pisses all over Javid Bowen.

King is better than Granville too, if he can manage to stay on the field.

Dream, he's got a point about Coote though.

There's definitely an argument that Morgan is better at fullback and Lui is better at 5/8. So there's really no reason to be paying good coin to a player like Coote who is conceivably going to be playing QLD Cup all season.

Yes, we may need to shed players to keep Taumalolo, and Tamou would be one of the names on the list.

But I reckon there are a few more names on the list that could be considered surplus to requirements who I'd let go of before Tamou.

Lachlan Coote
Ray Thompson
Glen Hall
King (if he gets another injury) or Kostjaysn (if King stays fit)
Hezron Murgha (on minimum wage, but too old to debut now)

Haha - I feel you are wrong on both counts, but I'll let the future decide who is right.

Linnet may be better than Bowen - now - but his stocks are are less attractive thanks to his off field indiscretion, fumble hands and poor finishing. Agree he does a job currently but I can't see him getting a contract upgrade into 2017.

King is a quality player but to free up coin, I doubt he will get a contract upgrade at the end of this year either....

I doubt Thompson would be on much coin and we'd have to replace him with someone of similar value really - so we wouldn't free much up with him. Hall is an obvious one and this year will be his last at the Cows surely. If Tanginoa fires up this year, we'll need to find a bit more to keep him past 2016.

The real value is in letting Coote and Tamou go. Tamou is still with us for 2016 though and if Hannant has a good season, he'll stay for at least another year. We'd have to back end Taumalolo's contract and let Tamou go after 2016.

I feel we have too many backs and it could be crunch time for the youngsters in Bowen, Santo and Feldt. If they can step up, we'd save considerable coin if they were to replace Winterstein and Linnet - not that I want it to happen, but we need to keep Taumalolo somehow!

We won't get both, hell, I doubt we will get one. This may rustle some jimmies though.

http://www.nzherald.co.nz/sport/news/article.cfm?c_id=4&objectid=11405440

The Warriors can afford to buy both five-eighth Kieran Foran and back-rower Jason Taumalolo, despite each player commanding offers around $1 million a season.

The Kiwis test duo are in the final years of their respective contracts with Manly and North Queensland, and the Warriors are among the frontrunners of rival clubs looking to sign both players for 2016.

Warriors chief executive Jim Doyle insists they could squeeze both under the $6.55 million salary cap, which is set to grow further in the next two years.

"You can fit both in if you target the right players at the right price and at the right time," Doyle said.

"It depends on what cap you've got available and what's coming up. Next year the cap is A$250,000 more than this year, and the following year is A$200,000 more than that.

"There's the marquee player allowance, there are third-party agreements, all sorts of things that come into it.

"That's a big part of the salary cap, managing it to get the maximised amount of talent."

Last month, Foran told the Herald it would be "a bigger call" to leave Sydney for Auckland, while both Parramatta and Canterbury have been touted as the clubs most likely to snare him should he part ways with the Sea Eagles.

Foran's manager, Paul Sutton, says his client won't talk to rival clubs until he decides whether to accept a four-year offer to re-sign with Manly.

This week the Warriors' focus shifted to Townsville where officials are understood to have personally delivered 21-year-old Taumalolo a giant $2 million two-year offer.

Much is made of the Warriors' inability to match the corporate backing of powerful NRL clubs such as the Sydney Roosters, yet Doyle believes elite players such as Foran would have no trouble finding additional financial support from Auckland's business sector.

"He's a pretty marketable individual, so there would be third parties out there who would potentially be interested in helping fund someone like him if he were to come," he said.

"We've got to build more of a network and we know that if the Warriors can get success - as in always in the top four and winning the premiership every now and again - the city will get behind them."

Their efforts to sign both Foran and Taumalolo highlight the club's ambition to become one of the NRL's genuine powerhouses.

"It shows players we are trying to talk to how serious we are in regards to wanting to get success. They can see it's very professional and that we want to be really serious about trying to be more consistent and stay at a higher level."

The Warriors are unconcerned by reports detailing the Cowboys' efforts to improve Taumalolo's off-field discipline, including fining him for turning up late to training and wearing the wrong gear, and Doyle believes there have been no serious behavioural issues.

"There is nothing that we are aware of and I've never heard anything. I was, for a couple of years, in charge of the integrity unit so there's every possibility that if there was any dramas with players off the field, I might know a little bit about that."

That last paragraph is amusing. Integrity unit. Lol. Bit like the Salary Cap auditer. Neither work very well.

How would the Marquee player allowance be available in this instance, out of interest?

Also tying up 2M+ in two marketable players seems a bit risky.

I do wish the Warriors well in there endeavour to sign For an though;-)

If we can afford both then you'd have to assume A) The 1 mil mark is media talk because it makes a nice headline or B) it's 1 mil total package, not under the cap (and both players will have a boat waiting for them....)

In any case Foran I'm 100% certain we won't get, Taumalolo I'm doubtful on.

But seeing as the quotes are straight from the Warriors CEO you can guarantee that every player managers eyes just sit up and we'll be linked to every player off contract even if the player has zero interest in making the move. We'll be used as a bargaining chip by a lot of agents.

One of the best forwards coming through for sure.

But not worth tying your salary cap up for the amount of dollars being quoted.

That's top halfback money.
