It's a big deal because the Cowboys have developed him from a young age and he's becoming one of the best players in the game and a contract this big would make him one of the highest paid players at age 21.

He wouldn't be doing anything wrong if he leaves but it's still a major talking point and it would be devastating for Cowboys fans to lose him just as he's becoming an elite player.

the way you've put it, it sounds like just because it's the Cowboys who have never won a comp that he shouldn't be able to test the market

let's face it, this happens every year, you get players who are going to be absolutely anything leaving the club that introduced them into the top grade

I don't think it's a big deal at all, he's a great player but NQ has arguably the best player in the NRL right now as well on their books, I fully expect him to leave as you can't pass up that sort of money when compared to what NQ will be offering

How the f**k did you get that from that post?

That isn't even remotely what was typed.

Anyone know how much Tamou is on??? Somehow he continues to get a NSW jersey so must be on a bit of coin.

Give him the chop, replace him with a bloke from the local comp on minumum wage who needs only to bring the same traits- slow, weak, lazy and hits the line like a marshmellow - and use the leftover cash to help keep Taumalolo.

Easy.

Jokes aside, this is what i expect to happen. Jase is a loyal bloke and while money is always a factor, i dont think itll be the deciding one with him. We wouldn't be able to match the Warriors contract dollar for dollar, but theres a lot more to consider for him than that. Uprooting your life and moving to another country to become the highest paid forward in the game and their marquee player is a hell of a lot of pressure for a 21y/o kid to handle.

No way in hell he stays for literally HALF the price.

They'll either move someone else on to up his contract value or lose him.

Ask yourself if you would stay at your work place for half what you could earn elsewhere.

it wont be "literally half the price" anyway. anyone who believes the figures thrown around in the media are muppets. It'll be more than we offer for sure, as it would need to be to get him to move his life across the ditch, but as i said earlier there are a hell of a lot of other factors for him to consider than just more money.

Wasn't he quoted saying something like "this is my last year in North Queensland"

Edit: Eitherway I hope he stays at the cowboys.

Yep.. exactly, like how long he has left in his career, whether he is going to have longevity in the game, whether he needs to support only his family or relatives, where he wants his kids to grow up. What lifestyle he wants to live. There are factors that he will need to weigh up as pros AND cons of moving or staying... both sides not just one.

I'd say as a general rule of thumb though that most clubs who manage to snare a top quality player that has been set in their ways at a particular club, you'd want to be at least paying them 30% more than what they are already getting.

If he's honestly looking for around 800K+ and he's only getting 500K from you guys... most people would be inclined to walk.

I hope he doesn't leave and that you guys move someone else on, because he's one of the most damaging ball runners in the game when on song.

If the media reports are anywhere near accurate, i'd walk.

how else is it a big deal then?

it's happening every single year, to worse off clubs than the Cowboys too

if this was a Roosters player fans wouldn't give a shit but because it's the poor old Cowboys who haven't ever won a comp, it's a big deal.. I mean how many elite players can the Cowboys say that they nurtured and developed? that's why it's a big deal

Exactly, it's a big deal for us because we are losing a player we love who has been at the club for a long time just as he's fulfilling his potential, we haven't brought many star players through the grades.

This thread only has Cowboys fans saying they will be disappointed to lose him, I can't see a single person complaining that the system needs changing or saying that he's being stolen from us, we've only stated that it'll be a big loss.

Where did I say that he shouldn't be able to test the market?

Like Canard said, your statement has nothing to do with my post. I don't understand how you can't comprehend that it would be a big deal for Cowboys fans to lose him.

That was my point, it's a big deal because he would be 1 of a very select few that the Cowboy's have nurtured into the elite calibre of players in the comp but it's only a big deal to Cowboys fans, to any other fan it's just another run of the mill "i'm off contract soon" story

if Taumalolo does sign with the warriors for 2016, how is that even a big deal? How is that taking the money and running? Is he the only player to change clubs?

Hasn't walked out on any contact or negotiated any sort of release. Hasn't gone to another code either.

your reply was to the above quote, it's not a big deal to anyone other than Cowboy's fans, that's my point

I don't see a Trent Merrin thread anywhere

I think it's still a pretty big story for a 21 year old to be offered 1 mill a season.

Not to mention, he's a 21 year old lock forward. You could understand the price if he was a gun half or fullback but backrows are typically more common. On top of that, the kid still has a lot to learn and I don't think he deserves to be amongst the highest paid players in the competition and don't think he will deserve it until he's at least in his mid-20s.

So what if he is only 21. He has been playing first grade for a couple of years now and played for the Kiwis.
I mean shite, even Inglis and falou were playing for the Roos while in their teens.

Our code has to start paying our young superstars what they are worth.
We can all see his talent.

We will lose more players if we dont start putting some extra zeros on their pay packets, then we will be whinging like we did when Falou left to union because we cried about paying him a extra 100 thousand.
If Ingis goes to union, souths can buy him. They lost Burgess as well.

The Roosters are crowing about having another young superstar, this is the type of player you need to hold back and not get sucked into buying, untested.

We've got plenty of players who we can move on to make way for an increased Taumalolo contract. Bye bye Tamou, small contract extension for Hannant who will be a force again this year until Kaufusi to come of age. Bye bye Linnett, hello Javid Bowen. Bye Bye Coote, hello Santo or Morgan at FB. Bye bye King, hello Granville extension under his beloved Paul Green.

Anyone who thinks we won't be trying to pay Taumalolo top dollar to stay has no idea. If he still decides to go, good luck to him. He doesn't owe us Cowboys fans anything and wherever he ends up, I know he'll carve up!
