Is any forward worth $1mill? For the amount of time they spend on the field and the general number of forwards with similar abilities it is hard to see how? Fair enough if they also provide great marketing potential or are going to be a capt of the club and provide amazing leadership but this guy is still young and will do neither of those things. Is any single forward likely to be the difference between winning and losing games??

Maybe salary cap is too high if a forward can earn $1million these days?

What are you the president of the backs association?

Irony - a state of affairs or an event that seems deliberately contrary to what one expects and is often wryly amusing as a result.

The Cowboys poached a 13 year kid from Auckland with the expectation that he would develop with them in to a great Cowboys player.

Instead just as he starts developing to his peak he ends up being poached by the Warriors and ends up back in Auckland.

What's with the emotional use of poached?

If he signs a contract for 2016, how is that poaching?

For mine, good luck to him take what you can get.

They lost Jason Byakuya and Feleti Mateo. Easily a million there. And Ryan Hoffman signed on for minimum wage

Lets not forget Kevin Locke, Jerome Ropati, Dane Nielson, Carlos Tuimavavue and Sam Lousi but im sure they were all on minimum wage

Okay, also signed big cap takers Allwood, Pewhairangi, Bodene Thompson and Jono Wright

Think we played well under the cap in 2014.
Last year our only notable signing was Tomkins (there was also Townsend and Bukuya)
Leaving was Packer, Lowrie, Godinet, Elijah Taylor, Steve Rapria, Bill Tupou

Similar abilities to Taumalolo? Granted he's not the finished article just yet, but who are these forwards who have similar abilities that are off contract and might take the Warriors seriously.

Normally I'd agree with the marketing, but if you think Taumalolo won't be a marketing coup for the NZ based Warriors then you're dreaming.

Besides, it's yet to be seen whether they're actually paying 1 mil (if they even get him). For all the rubbishing the media gets around here if they put a price on something everyone takes it as gospel. Not to mention that it would probably be a mil total package, who knows what it would be under the cap.

Seems that everyone who signs anyone has their cap questioned (even before there's an actual signing).

Have the cowboys EVER lost a player that they've developed such as Taumalololo?

About time they start providing some players to the rest of the competition, you can't always just import superstars NQ.

I'm using the word Poached in both instances because I've seen the media label clubs who are trying to sign Taumalolo poachers

I can't think of many other forwards in the NRL who are big and strong enough to dominate in the front row and also agile enough to beat some backs with speed and footwork. He can play 80 minutes too.

They're doing smart things with recruitment, pay overs for players they really want, plus a few home ground superstars and then once you get the nucleus, other players are willing to look at the club without having to pay overs.

A team with Mannering, Johnson, Hurrell, Hoffman, Tomkins, Manu are players that would get a start at any club, add in Jason Taumalolo and that's half of a quality starting lineup

Hoffman signed for minimum wage? That's seems hard to believe.

Maybe not mimimum but they didn't pay overs. Remember there's the potential of a whole country of sponsors that would be willing to stump up cash for TPA's and have the potential to have access to the Australian market as well

He was at Souffs before coming to us.

Probably more the fact that the Cowboys were setting up for him as he left and still haven't filled the breach.

If he was still at Souths he'd still be behind Luke like Koroisau was.

Yes he was poached... Any f**king player signed at 13yrs of age is poached.

And I would say the same if the Warriors signed a 13yr old with the intent of moving him to Auckland to play football... And that includes in kids in other parts of NZ.

A 13yr old kid should never be signed to a football club...

There was another but unfortunately he went to play rugby in the South of England.
