Right, thanks for clarifying that for me.

Charges can be withdrawn by the Police if it is determined that a guilty decision would not be delivered. All that needs to happen is for some evidence to be discovered that calls into question evidence against De Belin into question.

Tyrone May next in line?

So the new law brought in, league's no-fault stand down policy, has started a leaking of videos etc. Not unexpected I guess.

So, they go one of two ways;
- they don’t ban May, and there is the inequality we are all waiting for...
- or they do, and it starts an avalanche of such occurrences ...

I hope for the second... pain now, but long term it may have an effect in changing behaviour (still not convinced that presumed innocence should be irrelevant though)

Oh, and I love May’s claim that he is innocent because he didn’t make it public, just shared it with some mates :joy: ... moron!

Jack de Belin is planning to challenge his NRL ban in federal court tomorrow.

Channel Nine have reported that the St George Illawarra forward will also seek to gain an injunction against the NRL.

It is unclear whether the Dragons are supporting the player with this matter.

Foxsports.com.au have reached out to the Dragons for comment.

James Graham on how the Dragons are dealing with the Jack de Belin saga

St George Illawarra Dragons player Jack de Belin is currently stood down while his court case continues.Source: AAP
St George Illawarra prop James Graham has admitted the club have been emotionally affected by the ongoing Jack de Belin saga.

Last week, de Belin became the first player under the NRL’s new ‘no-fault’ stand down policy to be indefinitely sidelined while he faces an aggravated sexual assault charge.

Despite the off-field distraction, the Dragons need to prepare for the 2019 season, with Tyson Frizell shifting to lock in the club’s Charity Shield loss to South Sydney last Saturday.

“As a group we’ve tried not to focus on it, but when you see the newspaper and the news headlines most days for two-and-a-half, three months, it’s hard not to come up in conversation or in thought,” Graham told NRL 360.

“I’d be lying if that was the case, but I don’t think it’s going to be the focal point of our season.

“We’ve lost a player that is irreplaceable, I think, but the coaching staff are working hard about how we’re going to combat that.

“We’ve got Korbin Sims sitting out the first two rounds as well, but I’ve got a strong belief that the players that come in are going to thrive and fulful that role.

“We saw Jacob Host on the weekend and Josh Kerr in the All Stars game play really well so there have been some opportunities that have been created through misfortune for others.”

Im so glad Jacks taking this legal action, as somebody whos studied law Im quietly confident he will win the case

dont get TOO excited im just speculating on what I know about law and that is that ALL law is contract and ALL contract is law, so as Jack signed his contract with the NRL I dont think there can be any legal standing for his case apply by the NEW laws they just passed, his contract would have been ( hopefully) for the rules from before that ruling, it is a RETROSPECTIVE ruling so I can see him winning.....just a tip but I damn hope im right!

The only thing I find extraordinary concerning Jack launching legal proceedings against the NRL is the “sensational” reaction of the media outlets.

As an individual he is entitled to his day in court.

Win or lose, the application of the rule should be tested.

I have said before on this forum. How can you walk the streets when you are on bail for murder but you can't play football when you are on a lesser charge. Especially when a magistrate varies your bail so you can play?????. I am totally confused. Please explain Tod

Well 2 things.

Rape may be a lesser charge, but it's really only one spot below murder.

And most importantly, it's not about "playing football" it's about resuming employment duties, especially in the public eye. It's very standard protocol to be stood down from employment pending charges as serious as this given the nature of access public has to him.

Hell it happens in private workplaces too. Jack isn't going to win this NRL thing and all that's gonna happen is the Dragons get dragged through the mud a bit more even closer to the season

Tend to agree.

Esp point 1.

The bail conditions were lifted as he was not a flight risk if I recall correctly. Cant recall the magistrate saying " he should play footy and thus we lift the bail restrictions so you can play ".

"
"Given he's a high-profile sports person, he's been in the media for a number of years, I don't think he presents a flight risk," Magistrate Clisdell told the court.

He also noted De Belin has a partner of six years who is pregnant, but ruled he would still be required to surrender his passport and was forbidden from attending international airports. "

Lets see how things pan out.

I hope out 2019 is not doomed already but I am struggling to see through the darkness right now....

Can't wait for the footy to start, though the way McGregor got the team 'pumped' for the second half of Charity Shield just shows we are in for more of that mediocrity that we've come to hate from the past two coaches.

Nrl makes the competition rules including rules governing player conduct.

STGI employ JDB. STGI is the party that could stand JDB down. STGI has chosen not to.

Even if the rule has been validly made, what evidence if any did the NRL assess prior to suspending JDB?

If the answer is the NRL had no evidence and have relied on the police charges, this in itself suggests they have not conducted a proper review.

It would not be reasonable to rely solely on the allegation made by the young lady.

I will not be surprised if injunctive relief is granted in favour of JDB.

Why do you want to know what I think? What it is it exactly that you what to know what I think about?

Is it because you value my opinion that you want to know what it is? lol

I do agree that Aitken should be sacked, but Dufty to prop??? lol Dufty either starts at fullback in first grade or ISP. What does any of that have to do with the JDB case? Wrong thread Gitano. lol

So you do value my opinion after all. lol
