I would fully support this move.
Imagine how many willy old veterns who never made it to the top league there are, licking their lips at a chance to take a show pony like Dugan down?

i would fly, hell i would drive from brisbane just to see that

If Dugan is a no show again today, then surely that makes his actions the same as SBW's 5 years ago. By all reports he has fled to Sydney, he hasn't turned up at the club all week, and he won't return calls.... Pretty clear that he has simply walked out on his contract.

In that case, the NRL must deregister him for the length of his current contract in the same way they did with SBW.

Dugan will be sacked today. If he is allowed to play for another club this year, it will send the message to all players that if you want out of a contract, just disappear and completely disrupt your current club and your wish will be granted.

If Dugan plays again this year, he receives absolutely no punishment for his actions. That can't be allowed to happen.
i thought he was stood down?

He's been asked to attend a meeting of the board this morning which reports are he didn't show up to. He's basically gone AWOL.

It was only a few years ago that Toddles was villain number 1 because he tried to negotiate terms with the board around his drinking. Fans saw that as a huge slap in the face. Now Dugan can't even be arsed showing up to discuss his fate. Its really saying something when he's behaved many factors worse than Carney.

Carney didn't think the raiders would sack him so tried to negotiate from a position of weakness and was shown the door. Plenty of ego and dumbness in there but at least he had the balls to show up to his hearing.

A reasonable measure of players' attitudes and personalities is how willingly their media managers and other staff put them forward to speak or attend events. Clubs will generally put forward certain players if given the choice because they know they will speak well and/or present the right image. Others they will avoid where possible because they know they are merkins. When the Raiders were up here the Dugan was nowhere to be seen. And I could list a few from other clubs who are also handled in the same way for the same reasons.

Kasiano doesn't talk to the press but I think that is because he comes across as mildly geniused.

I was being nice :)

I don't think he is a bad egg is my point.. Feel free to list players that don't get media duties.. no insinuations.. I just don't pay much attention to other clubs videos.

Yeah, it's a lot to do with who can speak, but also who has a good image. Plenty of merkins give interviews, but only because they are asked by the media and clubs often reluctantly agree to such requests. Most clubs, however, offer players for interview or try to, rather than accept requests from journos, to keep the merkins out of the way. Public appearances can be slightly different - seen and not heard.

Yeah that's very true.

I remember for a very long time the only Raider you ever saw in interviews or on panel shows was Mark McLinden because he was so well spoken, despite the fact he never captained the club once.

Also, I don't care if he f**ks off and plays rugby in Japan or France but it would be grossly unfair to the Raiders if he's allowed to sign with another NRL club this season after everything he's done.

I dont reckon the NRL can deregister him for missing some training sessions and getting on the piss. Unfortunate for Raiders but f they sack him he will get picked up by another team.

Not that he's played yet but Lui was picked up pretty quickly, also Gay Guy was playing for the Knights not long after Brisbane let him go. Plenlty of precedents.

$BW would only be a precedent if Jed refuses to come back and complete his contract. $BW wasn't sacked. He walked. Sacking Jed wouldn't prevent him signing elsewhere.

IMO the raiders should put out buckets at their home games labelled "Keep Dugan in country footy" that fans can toss money into in order to pay the Dugan's salary until June 30.

I'm sure plenty of fans like Skeepe would be willing to put up some cash to reimburse the club for paying this piece of garbage's salary for another few months just to ensure he gets royally f**ked over by a) not being allowed to sign elsewhere this year, and b) getting absolutely toweled up by a bunch of frustrated CRL players wanting to put the show pony in his place.

Keep him on the list. Make him train every day. Never ever play him. Not even reggies.
