Since entering Premier League in the year 2000 Jets have had some great players.

Thought it might be some fun to have a poll on who the fans think were our best.

Can only pick a maximun of 17 and have to leave an option for (others ).

See what you guys think of the ones I have chosen, or nominate one and cross the others box.

Peter HOWIE
David HALL
David HOWLETT

Luke HESSION

Wes PATTON ( tongue in cheek ).

I picked:
Scott FLEMING
Peter BAUMGART
Ben COOK
Tate MOSLEY
George TOPHAM

I would also add Robert Henare and Tere Glassie to the list.

Why? Not because these guys were the BEST players we had, but because they were each inspirational in their own way.

Scott FLEMING:
Flemmo gave everything he had in every game, tackled miles above his weight and was scared of no-one when he was wearing Royal Blue. It was often said that if we had thirteen Flemmos we could win the comp easily.

Peter BAUMGART
Rose above the tragedy of his wife's passing and retired briefly to raise his young son. He then begged for a chance to return and help out the Jets when he felt the jersey wasn't being respected enough by the then current players.

Seeing him lead the team in the Jets' victory song one last time in the change rooms at the Sports Stadium after beating the Bulldogs was unbelievable. He nearly turned himself inside out shouting the lyrics - you could tell how very much the Royal Blue meant to him.

Ben COOK
Another who played beyond his perceived ability when he took the field for the 'Bags. Has no regard whatsoever for his own safety. He often took the ball magnificently in the air and then surged off downfield - turning defense into attack and spurring on his team.

Tate MOSLEY
A ferocious competitor onfield and a lamb off the field. A perfect example to other, younger players. It was a great pity we couldn't hang onto him and see the best of his career at Henson. Same goes for Tere Glassie - also a true gent.

George TOPHAM
Weighed about 7 stone wringing wet, yet never failed to grab the ball and charge into the teeth of the defence when our forwards were going backwards. He would shame the big blokes into putting in. A career of great potential tragically cut short by spinal / neck problems.

Robert Henare
Another onfield monster who was nice as pie once the game finished. Gave plenty while playing for the Jets, mostly on one leg due to a bad knee injury.

Not sure about the best but i think Troy Barnes would also deserve a nomination.

Others that could be considered are Najarrin, Cakacaka and El Hamed.

I knew there was a reason why I put this thread on. After doing so I could not myself make a decision cause there was so fricken many and such a tough question asked was so damn hard to answer it myself, but that was fricken awesome Dawson. Such memories stirred, and I now I know why I did.

Remember the game at Redfern oval when the opposition ( think it might have actually been the sharks ) crossed the try line and were about to score in mid dive when little George TOPHAM grabbed the potential try scorer in mid dive, lifted him in that judo sh*t move and actually carried him whilst twisting in a double spin taking him over the dead ball line without him touching ball down to score. Fricken never to this day ever seen anything like it in the football code.

Saw big Pete at Henson the other week in the crowd. Awesome Jet player. How many come backs did he make beyond his calender age, and always gave 150% no matter what. Worth 13 players alone. What an inspiration to his team mates he was. Most of his come back games he was injured and still worth a fit man times two. Love that bloke in a royal blue jersey. Legend stuff Pete and an absolute honor to the code of football and the history and tradition of the Bluebag club, he did us so proud. Never forget him when he was the trainer and we were short and hadn't won a game for about 8 in a row in about 2002. Came back against the Roosters at Henson and led the boys against the grain and we won due to his inspiration in his mid thirties. Dead set had a tear in my eye that day when they came off and the smile on his dial telled the tale as he led the under dogs Aussie battlers from the field.

Ben COOK was always an inspiration to the Jersey and club as well. Wiry skinny bloke that he appeared, he was was unstoppable in attack and played like he was 110 plus kilo although looked like he would blow over in a high wind. Tough as nuts, and fast as a lightning bolt, he would take the hardest of tackles although always got up and gave more than he ever got against the biggest in the game. When the opposition broke away and ran 50 metres plus there was one man who never gave in when the rest already had. He chased them down like a hurricane, and never said try to you guys,( and would have chased them for ever till he got em and he always would without fail and to their surprise). On ya Benny.

I will never forget Alfie DUNCANS inspirational tries at Henson. Running 50 to 60 metres and palming off two to four defenders one armed as he tore down the wing to put the ball over the line and the Jets back in front. Absolute awesome stuff Alfie. You are forever in my memory banks.

Bilal would play even if on crutches. Gonads of steel and he would never fail to hit the line when we were behind or in front. This bloke played until the siren rang even if the side was behind by 50 points and he was walking on one leg. Total inspirational player that lifted his team mates beyond their capacity and never said die. True Bluebag thru and thru, and an honor to the jersey.

Westies chip and chase was awesome. This player was to the Jets what LANGER was to Brisbane and the marones. Miss ya Brad, your play and your leadership on the field against the tallest of odds, and your never say die attidtude and play.

FLEMO was the Captains captain, and like all Jets would never say die. He was a tackling dynamo, and a leader of men with a top football brain. Leaving the Jets to captain coach Engadine dragons to several grand final wins in local A grade comp. It took the Jets a couple of seasons down the wrong end of the ladder to replace his missable skills on the Henson Park.

ALL OF THEM!!!!

I was a big fan of Pete Baumgart and Ben Cook. Flemo never stopped trying!

Troy Barnes has been very inspirational and ALF was bloody exciting.

Stos and Najarrin did great things too.

Good one guys!

Best for me would have to be Field - made a hell of a difference whenever he was there and a genuine match winner on a few occasions.

Favourites though would be Billy Najjarin (for just getting back up every time), Alf (for the "fend-off... run.... fend-off.... run.... fend-off ....score" efforts) and Cookey (for the miracle plays) - but there have been plenty of other local heroes in that time.

Forgot about Monah. He was a great hard player as well. Really hit the line. Caca Caca who went to France was a hard runner too. Monah often played with injury as well. Think his last game for us was against Norths last season at Nth Sydney Oval.

He went hard didnt he.....Then injury put him out again.....

Billy got injured preseason and is out for 2005.

Tabua Cackcaka went to France but is now at Gateshead Thunder in the UK.

Last I heard Monah was playing A-Grade somewhere. He was unlucky with injuries but he was a great player. It would have been a sight to see him and Stos together.

Thanks 2 True. Done that now.

Cakacaka was a good 'un - got the crowd to it's feet many a time, in fact it was almost dangerous to be standing next to a certain Rugby League radio show host if Caka got into a half gap!

Trev should get mention as well - courageuos and skillful

Monah El Hammed is now playing with the table topping Auburn Warriors in the Parramatta A-Grade DDP Cup (Division 1) comp.

Anyone know if Trev is pursuing a coaching career still or still running around?

Congratulations on a very good post 2 true blues. Those names you listed gave their heart and soul to the Royal Blue. I would have to vote for Flemo who was one of our greats from our successful the Metro Cup period. ( winning 4 Premierships) He then went on to lead us in Premier League in our comeback 2000 season and we only missed the top 8 on percentages.

Closely followed by Craig Field who carried the entire team at times in his 2 seasons with us. BUT an honourable mention for pure potential and class goes to Cliff Beverley. If he was around with our relationship with Cronulla he would have made the Show. From memory after our relationship with the Warriors was terminated he went to England and I think was the marquee player for a second division club! Unbelievable waste of talent. He bore a remarkable resemblance in looks and style to Steve Larkham,

I can't go by without mentioning that great clubman Luke Ellis as well.

Cliff BEVERLEY was an awesome impact player. Scored many a great try for us and really stood out everytime he had the ball, and found the gaps everytime.

I couldnt really make up my mind, as I truly liked them all, however picked big Pete for his never say die attitude, which in itself is what I think the club is all about really. The little aussie battler spirit, which never gives in. Pete would throw those boots on and come back from retirement ( how many times ??) whenever we needed him, and always give it all, even when injured he hit that line hard, and always put his body on the line. Really respect that. And he would always walk through that tunnel from the field with the proudest and biggest grin on his face.

Tough through and through, with a heart as big as pharlap. A true mans man, with a heart of gold, who was passionate about his club, and would always fight back from adversary, and could always be relied upon to give it all thru thick and thin. Many a knot in the throat, after big Pete limped from the field, or walked off with his son on his shoulders after a hard fought Newtown victory, usually against a stronger proffessional lineup.

Read your article in the paper the other day Bluebag 43. Good stuff mate. Bet that fool from ( menai wasnt it ) that was in there days prior hardly ever makes a Flegg or Premier league game anyway. If he was that keen he would follow his team at Henson or where ever they played. Anyway, great stuff Bluebag. See you on the hill at Henson brother......

Thanks for that feedback 2 True Blues. I think that guy who wrote into the Leader might understand now! As you say most NRL supporters don't give a rats about Prem League anyway!

I agree Big Pete is hard to go beyond as he is a guy that has taken the Club to heart and loves it like us and understands the history and prestige of wearing the famous Royal Blue. He was and is a leader of Men on and off the Field.

He has comes through times of adversity losing his wife and remains a great bloke!

See you tomorrow on the Hill at Henson brother!
