Belrose 20 Chester Hill 4 Saturday, 12 May 2007
web_jbc%20logo.jpg
In contrast to the last two matches where Belrose conceded 14 tries, their round 8 match against the mid table Chester Hill Rhinos was a tight affair with both sides putting emphasis on their defence. In a hard and sometimes brutal clash, the Belrose Eagles continued their unbeaten run with a 20-4 victory. Determined to focus on defence, the Eagles looked less then impregnable in the opening minutes where two missed tackes gave the Rhinos some ascendency, but from then onwards the Roses line was barely threatened. The heavy dew made handling difficult and three or four Belrose scoring opportunities were squandered early before Matt Forrest ran into a gap to score beneath the sticks after 11 minutes. This 6-0 advantage was to be the end of the scoring for the half as both sides took to each other with some solid hitting. James Mortimer was assisted from the field in 'Disneyland' followed shortly after by the try scorer Matt Forrest seeing the same stars. The Rhinos seemed to be enjoying the majority of the possession and the better of the field position but the Eagles line held firm until the half time whistle.

Coach Camroux was happy with the effort, particulary in defence, but asked for the attackers to go through the line and look for tip-ons in order to create some space for the speedsters out wide.

He only had to wait 5 minutes for his Eagles to deliver. Some good go forward created by the big boys gifted some space to the flying Tom Joseph who carted the ball forward 40 metres to within a whisker of the line. From the ensuing ruck the ball was swept wide to the left, including a miracle 30 metre Richie Plummer torpedo, for Michael Takau to stroll over unopposed in the corner. Belrose 10-0.

The Eagles were looking much the better side now, but a Rhinos try which came from an apparent knock-on where all players stopped, put them back into the contest with 20 minutes to go. Belrose 10-4

The final quarter was when the toughness of this game began to take its toll with both teams using the interchange bench frenetically. The Eagles tightened their grip on the match when Tim Mortimer, now playing half back after Plummer exited with a neck injury, slipped a gem of a ball to Todd Barrow who scored wide out. Belrose 14-4.

The crowd, almost ghoulishly, were enjoying the sideline theatre as trainers, players and finally the doctor reduced a Shannon Cameron finger dislocation as Tim Mortimer decided to put a try on of his own under the posts with a lightning dart through the tiring Rhinos line. The Todd Barrow conversion gave Berlose a winning 20-4 scoreline.

This was a very tough encounter where the Roses had to work hard for every point. It must have been pleasing for the coach to see the much improved defence.

Best for Belrose were the non-stop Steve Carew, the versatile Tim Mortimer and skipper Nathan Hollingsworth. Richie Plummer was central to everything and Tom Joseph continues to show his speed and strength down the flanks.

The team now has a 10 day break to nurse the lumps and bumps before they take on the Mounties on Sunday 20th May 3pm at Lionel Watts.

Belrose 20 (Forrest, Takau, Barrow, Mortimer tries Plummer Barrow goals) d Chester Hill 4 (1t)

do you mind giving us a report on the 4 boys after the match? especially Schuster..;-)

cheers.

Entrance defeated 7 hills 42-10

Entrance were strong in the first half and dominated first 25 mins scoring 3 unconvereted tries outwide to lead 12 nil. Demons held their own from next 10 or so mins and just when it looked like they would go into the break only 12 nil down, the entrance scored with 4 remaining then again on the siren to go into the break 24-0

Then straight after the break they scored again within 2 mins, scoring 18 pts in 6 mins of game time:x

Team then went try for try in the second half with Paul Ivan and Luke ackroyd crossing again for the demons.
Entrance scored try on the buzzer again to further embarass the demons.

Ivan and tannous had good games making several breaks, and ivan scoring. Ivan and winger fallon struggled a little with communication on defence in the first half with several tries scored down their side, it improved in the second half. McPhee's workrate is phenominal, tackled his heart out all day as well as running a couple of good lines.
Schuster was a little dissapointing, probably got about 15 mins of game time, just didn't run with any conviction, pulled up a couple of times before hitting the line, but then again Dave Johansen is about the only front rower we got that runs with and conviction.

well looks like it sets up a bottom of the table clash with asquith next week

yeah we thought that might be the case, as alot of your regulars will be involved in u/19 origin game. Parra is playing on saturday this week, so depends on how much game time the 3 get, they still may play with us on the weekend.
Peachey is back this week too

you can add Tannous to that list also..

yeah, all but McPhee are playing on an extened bench and chances are they may not even get on the field as I think Poeneki, Montenelli, Dahar and possably Alex Sava may get a run.

SYDNEY BULLS VS ERINA
2.30pm SUNDAY 13 MAY 2007
A mixed Bag on Mothers day would probably be the best way to describe the Bulls convincing victory over The Erina Eagles. With eleven contracted players unavailable and the predictable penalty count against the Bulls the game was always in control but credit must be given to a tenacious Erina side.
The first shock of the day occurred prior to Jim Beam Cup kick off when Erina hardman and former NRL Colossus Grant “Squasher” Wooden was relocated to Central Coast “A” Grade.
The depleted Bulls dominated the first 20 minutes to lead 12-0 prior to an avalanche of penalties- six in a row – that saw an excellent offload from Ruboena Enoka for Erina to be piggy backed by referee Munro to an unlikely 12-6 score line.
Awakend by a lopsided penalty count, the Bulls exploded with a brilliant try to Bulls local Adnan Saleh off a magical short ball by bulls conductor Steve Jolly followed by a kick recover to Wing Danny Barakat
Ahead 20 -6 at half time the boys from Bankstown were aware that ball control and greater discipline would ensure two valuable points
Early in the second half the most bizarre try would ensure a Bulls Victory. After excellent work from front rowers Puna Rubale and Suli Koreibeika unlikely dummy half Chris Smith opted to go the wrong way on the short before passing to Bulls hardman Charlie Nohra who stunned by receiving the balls on the 5th tackle used his previously unknown kicking game to place a delicate kick behind the line for wingman Danny Barakat to score his second try of the day.
At 26 – 6 it was apparent that the Bulls would win and while the faithful was hoping that the boys would go on to improve there for and against added by some bizarre decisions it became apparent that the bulls had started to contemplate next weeks game.
In the remaining 30 mins only one more try was to eventuate to half back Steve Jolly while Erina were able to score another 2 tries emphasising there never give up attitude.
While confirming the bulls spot in the top 5, coach Baysarri was dismayed by the Bulls lack of killer instinct.
“While our defence was reasonable all day we fired up in the 70th minute we need to start like that not finish like that.”
The Bulls were best served by Front row Puna Rusable second row Khaled Deeb, Steve Jolly ever consistent Nathan Debartolo and Dane Gilmore. While Erina were best served by Rubuon Enoke and Matt Riddle.
While the game did not rech great heights it was a contest and while slowed down to the referees pace will prove a valuable 2 points for the Bulls.
The Bulls return home next Friday against St George Feeder Club and Jim Beam new comers Shellharbour Jim Beam Cup 7.30 with Jersey Flegg Cronulla VS Bulldogs Kick Off At 6pm.

Cabra did well against Wenty considering they were down on forwards due to injuries and Casey Ellis being called up to PL.
Only real forward was Chris Yates and Ross Brown. Ross played with an injury which is due for an operation any day.
Francis Betham, Don Thompson, Ross Brown had good games.

Was watching the windsor game on Fox tel for a while yesterday arvo. Very poor quality of football, and ordinary defence. " A " grade made it look good at times. Cannot beleive this stuff makes it onto tele and they won'y televise the Premier League. Bloody disgrace really.

The scorers from last week's TV game were:

Windsor 34 (M Tausa, C Barlow, N Russell, D Randall, D Dalton, J Russell, W Weepu tries J Willoughby 3 goals) beat Mounties 16 (J Burns, M McConnell, C Herekotukuku)

A very fast game that was a contest in the first half as Windsor led 14-10 at the break. Veteran Inoke Amone was outstanding for the losing team but Windsor were consistent right across the park.

Some considered that Windsor would be a weak link after former coach Ghosn took 7 players to Mounties but the intial recruitment of 4 players from Premier League - John Russell, Ryan Russell, Jason Wrigley and Drew Dalton and Jim Baira from the Qld Cup has been further strengthened in the last few weeks by the return of local products, McConkie Tausa who has played plenty of P/L for the Roosters before going to the Qld Cup and Luke Gordon who was also signed by the Roosters at a young age and played some P/L last year.

Drew Dalton, in particular, brings great experience, having played in the last 2 Premier League grand final wins for Parramatta. The Wolves look like strong contenders in 2007.

They are not there as no-one went to their games. Am not a kid, you yourself should know that the quality is nowhere near as good as the quality of play in Prem/league. So would not the better game be on TV to entertain th public ?? Thats all I was saying.

I turned the game on when it was the 38th minute. The scores were locked, and then there was one of the softest trys I had ever seen. I turned it over to the sound of the commentater saying : That was a very, very soft try ".

Now if Premier league had have been on atleast it would have been entertaining. LOL...

Did you watch the game yesterday on FOX 2. I must have got the wrong team. Thought it was Windsor. The game was even in the 38th minute. Then there was that soft try I was talkin about. ????

funny that not long ago i heard on the radio that the standard of premier league is the worst it has been in a long time id even go as far as to say that belrose and windsor could probably knock off say western suburbs or one of the other low ranked teams i even think collegians in the tooheys cup could knock off one or two of the lower teams also

but on your point the standard of play in that game was quite poor and the top premier leauge teams are quite entertaining but there is a big gap in standard spread between the comp in preimier league and it would be hard not to only showcase the top 3-4 teams

Premier League is still on next year. Sydney Bulls will be playing instead of the Bulldogs, probably Mounties instead of Parramatta and maybe Windsor for Penrith.
