You can have Orford.

All you need to come up with is 500k, and relise the fact that his heart isn't with the game its with the money.

We have found Joey's long lost twin.

i hope joey stays. but if he thought he was moving to union, then he should have told the club, we could have lost bk as a result of it.

BK was no big loss. He's so injury prone he's become a HUGE waste of money. Manly can have him. As for Joey, I hope he goes, on the condition that if he goes we sign Orford. If we have neither of them next year, then we're up sh*t creek without a paddle, cause the Witt - Kurt combination is not working.

i think we could have him for less than $500K...the lure of the Central Coast (or close enough is good enough) would be enough for $350-400K.

earl you have changed your tune over the last few weeks...i would suggest his heart is with the game - it's just not with Melbourne...

No way is Orford worth 500k

NO PLAYER is bigger then the club or the code despite what he may think.

Well put mate. I'm a knights fan, and for a lot of years thats meant also being a Johns fan. If he leaves I'll still be a fan of his ability but the heart stays with Newcastle.
Stop stuffing everybody around Joey.

He's not worth 500k but he's worth a lot. Orford is a fantastic player, and would be a fantastic buy. The mail I've heard is the Warriors will big BIG for him, but seeing he has stated he wants to return to the central coast, I think we would have a better chance if we went for him than New Zealand would.

Ch 10 just reported that he has signed a 3 year deal with the NSWRU.

So thats that.

As of the 19th of June, Orford was still on the market and I hope Sarge and Hages are on the phone to him tomorrow.

He still is. He won't sign with the Storm.

Orford insists on a 1-year deal. The Storm will not agree to that. Neither party will waiver from that.

If Orford insists on a 1-year deal with the Knights, tell him to piss off, but he'll be more likely to sign a 2-3 year deal at Newcastle than he would in Melbourne.

Give him his 1 year, once the Gold Coast gets the 16th spot, offer him a new deal.

If Johns does got to Rugby it would jeapordise his media career once he retires from football, so more money now might earn him less later on.

Cunning, very cunning.

There is no guarantee there will be a 16th team and if there is a 16th it no certainty that it will be the Central Coast.

A 1 year contract with an option for an addition (on slightly reduced $$$) 2 years *IF* there is no Central Coast team admitted could be a smart option (asuming a 'get out option' for a Central Coast team. !!!!make sure the get out clause is that Orford has to sign with the CC team and can't go to another, higher spending team ;-)!!!!).

So, if a miracle happens *cough*Singobuysthenrl*cough* and a Central Coast team is admitted in 2006 the Knights would have Orford for just the 1 season.

If admitted in 2007 the Knights would have Orford 2 seasons etc etc.

Maybe even just a straight 3 year deal with a 'get out clause' allowing him to move to a Central Coast team (and no other) would be sufficient?

Considering moving closer to home is apparently a big thing for Orford I'd say the Knights have a slightly better chance that most other teams.

ps: It's quite possible Glenn Morrision might leave the Cowboys at the end of the year to improve his rep. chances (apparently he's been told he needs to be playing for a NSW based side to have a better chance) and both Glenn and his wife (i think) have family on the Central Coast. I wouldn't mind seeing him sign with the Knights.

Joey used to be my favourite player in the NRL. He's fast rocketting down that list due to his behaviour off field in recent years, and now the way he's treating the team that made him a star. If he's going to act like a selfish child every time his contract is up, I say good riddance.

As long as we pull our thumbs out and actually recruit, I really don't care where he goes.

Wane Bennett wasn't afraid to cut Wally Lewis from the Broncos when he felt it was time (and the money could be spent better on younger players).

If this story is incorrect maybe it's time for the Knights to start thinking about doing the same.

Johns is a very, very good player - but the Knights have not been getting 'value for money' recently and might be able to use the money better :?:

ok i never thought id defend johns but any knights fan could never be angry at him no matter what he does. he made the knights a winning club and won them a premiership, i have no doubt that if he played for souths theyd be somewhere around the top 4

I agree -- it is the same with Ben Kennedy who is also a tremendously gifted player, but hasn't been on the field enough. Both players have struggled to remain fit for a number of years -- there is no point paying players to occupy the grandstand each week so that the Ch 9 can zoom in on them and talk about how injured they are.

I couldn't care less whether Johns stays or goes, because we win either way:

* Johns stays = provided he is fit, we are premiership contenders, and he passes his footballing knowledge onto the younger players like Ennis and Kidley.

* Johns goes = We have an extra $400-500 K to use in the salary cap that we won't know what to do with. Not since the pre-cap days have we been in a position of having so much money freed up at once, especially with Kennedy now having left to.

Pull the plug on him now. The Knights board should show some balls, tell Johns to make his intentions known now or forget the offer the clubs made him. Reading today that Hagan has been trying to contact him for 76 hours, and he hasn’t bothered to return his calls, WTF is going on? Like it or not he is the captain of the Knights, he is being paid by them and Hagan is his coach, Hagan has every right to talk/contact him whenever he wants to. John Fordhame telling the Knights the only way they can talk to Johns is through him is utter bullsh!t, who does bloody Fordham think he is? I’ve said it in other threads, Johns is killing this club by the day, whilever we stuff around with him, our chances of signing a replacement are lessened, as if our position isn’t demoralising enough we have to suffer his antics. Like everyone else I’m sick of the whole thing, it leaves a very bad taste in the mouth. The way I feel about him at the moment I'll be happy to see the back of him. In the long run he will be the loser, the status he has enjoyed around here will be all but gone, people will remember him for the events of the past month or so to say nothing of the damage his defection to union will do to our game.

You are right antonius. The past 24 hours have made me realise he is and has been very unfair to the team and the fans. Also the administration is not doing its job. They should have set a deadline long ago and cut him loose when it passed. Can't see you or I jerking our employers around and getting away with it.

You reckon he is delaying the announcement till the moving vans are packed?

Please accept this as an apology and acknowledgement of your better understanding of the personality and character (?) in question.
