FOX HUNT ALMOST OVER
The Eels are expected to secure the signature of Josh Addo-Carr “imminently” with the axed Bulldogs star set to sign a short deal.
Addo-Carr was sacked by Canterbury earlier this month after he returned two positive results to cocaine following a roadside drug test in September.
The incident occurred a week out from the club’s first finals appearance in eight years, with Addo-Carr standing himself down as police waited on his test results.
Parramatta’s new coach Jason Ryles has pounced and is expected to sign the former Kangaroos and Blues speedster.
“We’re getting very, very close to a decision with Josh Addo-Carr, Parramatta are in the box seat, they’re the clear favourites to land Josh Addo-Carr,” Brent Read said on Triple M.
“I think we’re only days away from a decision. I imagine he’ll be an Eels fan next year so it’s a really handy signing for Jason Ryles. He wanted speed and he’s got plenty of speed in Josh Addo-Carr.
“I think it’s imminent and I expect a decision one way or the other pretty soon.
“I don’t think it’ll be a long-term deal, just because Josh has been through a bit lately, I suspect he’s going to have to take a bit less money, a haircut on what he was on at the Bulldogs.
“It’s probably in both parties interest not to do a long-term deal because obviously Parramatta are taking a punt on Josh and Josh has got the potential to show what he can do and earn a more lucrative deal down the track.
“I think it will be one or two years and I expect it will happen soon, but it’s not over the line yet.”
