He's about to sign a 2 year 1.3 million dollar deal to play for the raiders until the end of 2015.

He'll be a millionaire f**kwit soon.

So you are saying he should continue to drive 45km/h over the limit because he can afford it?

Thats going to have a big impact on the other players at the club and the clubs ability to sign and keep other good players.

Not to mention, he is injury prone. Big gamble.
No, it's great that a club like Canberra keeps it's best talent, especially considering the past. Apart from Campo, the best raider talent has leaked elsewhere, from BK to The Monaghans to Finchy.

That's got nothing to do with the fact that try are paying overs to keep him. And that will impact them buying other players. Really simple concept.

Not really overs. A large chunk of that is made up of 3rd party sponsorship. So it's not the Raiders money (which we have plenty of anyway) and it's not counted toward the cap. Doesn't really effect player retention.

Don Furner has done an excellent job of getting rid of the dead wood around the club and keeping the players we want to keep.

BTW: I wouldn't take a figure suggested by the DT as gospel. They get that wrong quite often.

I often get the impression that quoted salaries of players are based on best case scenarios and include every add in possible, many of which wont count under the cap.

I work in banking and people get annual bonuses - some of the guys that earn $200k plus (waaaaaay more than I earn btw) can double their salaries with annual bonuses if the company performs.

I'm sure there are performance bonus factors in third party sponsorships built in - such as boats if you make the Finals series without getting caught cheating .... I mean additional bonuses for the extra coverage your good performances in the competition will give a sponsor etc.

Often these figures can bloat. Also the Daily Telegraph probably just make stuff up.

I think the figures are a maximum value... dugan will have clauses for increases in the cap, and performance at club level bonuses... i would imagine if he can only play 13 games a year that 650k will be significantly reduced

Don Furner isnt many people's favourite person in canberra, but he's a pretty smart fella, he got his pants pulled down by Orford and i dont think he will want to be embarrassed like that again.

Talking of Orford, what has happened to him?
Has he been given the arse? Has any club picked him up?

Apparently paid out by the Raiders , the Raiders are seeking concessions for the pay out.

And apparently he is on the hunt for a club , looking and probably picking one up when injuries hit.

no one has picked him up
rightly so

he was payed out of his final year to the tune of 70k. A good result given he was contracted for over 200k

this time next year, he wont be on our books

Dugan fined for speeding, loses licence
Louis Andrews
June 21, 2012 - 11:42AM

Prosecutors have dropped a suspended driving charge against Canberra Raider Josh Dugan, but the rugby league star has been fined $600 for speeding.

In the ACT Magistrates Court this morning the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions offered not to proceed with the suspended driving charge.

But Dugan pleaded guilty to travelling 100km/h in a 60km/h zone in August last year.

Magistrate David Mossop convicted the 22-year-old and fined him $600 plus court costs.

Dugan's licence is set to be suspended by the ACT Road Transport Authority due to accrued demerit points.

Outside the court, Dugan said he had made a mistake and wanted to put the incident behind him.

The more serious charge was dropped after eleventh-hour negotiations between Dugan's solicitor, Kamy Saeedi, and the DPP.

"Josh was never properly suspended from the outset, and we've managed to demonstrate that to the DPP and they accepted it," Mr Saeedi said.

The lawyer said the DPP made the right choice not to proceed.

In court, Mr Saeedi submitted that, but for the suspended driving charge, the speeding matter would most likely have been dealt with by an on-the-spot fine.

Mr Mossop agreed, and said the appropriate course of action was to treat the matter as if it was a minor traffic infringement.

Police spotted Dugan driving through the north Canberra suburb of Evatt in August last year.

When the car turned into William Webb Drive, police saw the car visibly speed up and estimated it was travelling "well in excess" of the posted speed limit of 60km/h.

An in-car device clocked Dugan at 100km/h.

The court heard Dugan was polite and cooperative with police after they pulled him over.

Dugan has one previous conviction for driving in a manner furious, reckless or dangerous.

At the time of the latest incident he held a probationary licence, giving him just two demerit points to lose.

Prosecutor Anthony Williamson said the speeding conviction would strip him of those points, and road authorities would again suspend him.

Dugan had initially pleaded not guilty to driving while suspended.

The RTA had suspended the footballer over an unpaid parking fine.

But, in his representations to the DPP, Mr Saeedi argued the RTA's notice of suspension was faulty, prompting prosecutors to abandon the charge.

40kms over the speed limit (100 in a 60 zone) is not something i would call a minor offense.
