Having had a lot to do with both f**king fast cars and heavy mining equipment I can honestly say that braking distance is more dependent on the following than outright speed:
- The equipment you have to pull you up in time (stock shitty brakes versus something from the HSV, FPV or Brembo stables)
- The type of rubber you are using
- The weather conditions at the time
- The rolling resistance of the surface you are braking on
- The type of brake pad in use (long life cheapos, high po expensive or highest po f**king expensive but non working at lower temperatures)
- The weight of the object you are trying to bring to a halt
- How many times you have stamped on the brakes immediately prior to the "hard" application (fade etc)

Sharko, just because you keep hearing it in an advertisement by some self appointed crash expert does not make it true, if I were to take you for a spin in my twin turbo'd car and jam the brakes on as hard as I could at any given speed in optimal conditions it would be enough to jolt the absolute shit out of you and possibly throw you through the windscreen / into the dash if you were not wearing a seat belt.
It took me less than 2 seconds to go from 130 to 0 before I had the brakes bled and freshened up a week ago , I would test it beyond that but neck injuries suck balls.

On Carney - dickhead.
Reflexes on the football field do not translate to the ability to drive a car like a pro.

Your car does sound foolly sic bra but its not about any of that at all , its about your time to react to something that you weren't expecting to happen , meaning not like a corner coming up that you can see 50-100m's ahead of you, it's the time it takes you to take your foot off the accelarator then onto the brake and begin to slow your vehicle down . Which is atleast a second in which time your vehicle has travelled x amount of metres (this is the distance Kurt Faulk is talking about) then add the distance its takes to slow your vehicle once the brakes are applied (which is stopping distance you are talking about).
Seriously go and do a defensive driving coarse and they will demonstrate this to you while you're doing it your car.

hard to argue with that

That being said, i find it hard to believe that a recipant of the DOA (Dugan of Australia) would not be capable of swerving even the fattest man on the biggest loser, even if the tubby prick jumped out 1 metre infront of him when he was doing 130kmph.

Thats why the DOA is this countries highest acheivement, it is only given to those of supreme, some might say, super human abilities.

He wouldn't have to swerve he would be swept away by a tsunami of tears.

All P platers should be doing these as a mandatory component of their licence.
But its in the "too hard" basket for some reason.
I'm aware of the required reaction time MuTT, I used to drive those gigantic arse mining trucks (Komatsu 730E, Komatsu 830E, Liebherr KL2450, CAT 777, CAT 785A and C, CAT 789C, CAT 793D, CAT 797B and Liebherr T282A,B and C) and a second too late on the dynamic geniuser meant you either clenched the arse cheeks for one hell of a ride down the hill (loaded) and endangered the wheel motors on the electric trucks or you made the $80,000 dollar decision to lean on the brakes to bring it back within range.

For the record I do not condone Dugan pulling down that kind of speed on a public road, its not a f**king race track (the surface sucks balls in most parts) and I am not looking to try and justify that in any way shape or form - I am only stating from my own experiences and investigations as to when things have gone wrong it has had a lot more to do with the facilities available to pull up the locomotive and the surface it was on rather than the speed it was doing at the time.

Have to agree with you there , the stuff i learnt when i did one was invaluable. I know my kids will be doing them.

How many teachers, politicians (local, state & federal), lawyers, fire fighters, bakers, butchers, plumbers, chefs were caught speeding and driving while unlicensed last week ?

My original post indicating that Dugan's license suspension was due to an overdue payment for a parking ticket was deleted because I didn't post a source.

Well there you go:
http://www.canberratimes.com.au/new...e-escalates-dugans-driving-drama/2450717.aspx

Considering the amount of speculative horse mess that gets posted on this joint without being deleted I must say I am a little bemused Mr Mods.

Pretty sure that when you're caught driving while your licence is suspended, that the reason it's suspended isn't the major consideration.

Couldnt pay a parking fine? Must have been all those onerous medical fees to clear up that life threatening boil.

Actually in NSW if your licence is suspended from an unpaid fine you receive a lesser punishment for driving while suspended.

I think it's a 3 month suspension as opposed to 12 months
