And I doubt even Griffin is dumb enough to start Barbs at 6 to keep Hoffman happy. Because between him and Hodges, it won't matter who else is in the backline since they'll never see the ball

So he weakened arguably the most important position in modern football to strengthen one of the least important. He would've been better off hiding Corey Norman elsewhere, like Q-cup

He being Griffin cannot be defended and I won't be taking on the task on this forum. I don't think he is our answer and has routinely showed to be either stubborn to a fault or lacking the foresight of that of a NRL calibre coach. Griffin has plenty of questionable calls in his time and from where I sit Lockyer led teams hid his flaws as a NRL coach.

I was a strong supporter for the signing of Kevin Walters who has done a good apprenticeship and have a Darren Lehmann type impact on the Brisbane Broncos rugby league team.

I rarely disagree with you but I mist here. It's probably time Barba moved into Five-eighth. With a new club, it's probably the best time for him to move there now considering they've already got an awesome Fullback in Hoffman. Barba carved them up when playing 5/8 in the Toyota Cup back in the days, so now is perhaps the best time for him to convert.

Agreed.

 Barba's stint for the Bankstown bulls would be a better comparison to the Nrl than the u20's.

Ben Hunt was a Toyota cup player of the year aswell

"When someone disagrees throw in a laughing emoticon - that will ensure I am right!"

Fans scoffed when Darren Lockyer was touted as a possible five-eight after making his name as a fullback where he redefined the position. Ben B###a has traits of a five-eight that were on show as a young man in the U20 competition. Fact.

That aside, at his best, B###a showed he could not only score but set up tries for his then beloved Bulldogs side. B###a with ball in hand is a dangerous proposition regardless of his position. The transition to 6, if it happens, will not be as difficult as some may suggest.

2012 BEN B###A (Canterbury)

Appearances: 26

Tries: 22

Try assists: 23

Line breaks: 25

Tackle breaks: 168

Bombs defused: 45/54

Average metres per game: 121.8

Average kick return metres per game: 58.5

The trade off at fullback wasn't as large as what would have occurred on the wing.

I also think Hoffman's form in 2012 came into the equation. I'm unsure how much Broncos footy you watched in 2012 dogslife, but Hoffman just didn't play to his ability that year and his performance in the final was one of the worst any Broncos fullback has dished up. To his credit, Hoffman enjoyed a very good season on the wing last year and earned his fullback spot back, but I don't think a lot of people who watched the Broncos religiously held the opinion that he was head and shoulders better than Norman at fullback.

It was just a bad hand to be dealt really.

Hoffman's 2012 form had nothing on his 2011 form and honestly, I don't know what happened to him after 2011. 2011 saw him as a link man on numerous occasions, giving the final pass for a try or setting guys up into holes.

Maybe Lockyer was covering his flaws - who knows.

Not sure if srs. There's been no escaping them for several years now.

While we're on on that subject, I'm curious as to how many games people have seen Barba at 6. I've seen quite a few, hence why I feel people should be prepared to see the Broncos outside backs on paper only

There's a minimum 1 chin policy in Brisbane. Price couldn't get in.

Considering some the fantastic chins in Broncos' history (Brent Tate, Tonie Carroll), Steve Price shouldn't be named even as a joke.

Interesting to see the bloke who "lacks the passing game" to play fullback is now playing five-eighth...

As Pete said, he's just a stop gap for Kahu, who is probably only going to be playing Five-Eighth until Milford arrives.
