THE Broncos have closed the door on Josh Hoffman joining the Bulldogs after the parties smoked the peace pipe on Thursday to ensure the Kiwi Test star remains at Red Hill.
The messy three-month saga has officially reached a point of resolution, with Hoffman agreeing to honour the final two years of his contract after meeting with Broncos hierarchy.
The Courier-Mail detailed Hoffman?s request for a release last Sunday, prompting Brisbane bosses to summon the player and his manager Paul Hogan for a 2pm meeting at Red Hill on Thursday.

?I?m happy where I am at the moment with the team and looking forward to a good year,? he said.
?Hopefully one day I can remain a one-club man.
?The most exciting part is putting on the jersey and playing alongside each other, all positions aside we (he and Barba) are just happy to be in the same team.
?At times I would read the paper and it rattled my confidence. At some stages, I wouldn?t want to come to training.
?Whatever position I am put in, I will give my all to the team. I?m the type of person who will give 100 per cent wherever I?m put.?
An interested observer was Hasler. While delicate discussions took place at Red Hill, Hasler was 110km away in camp on the Sunshine Coast preparing the Bulldogs for Sunday?s Charity Cup trial against the Storm.

Canterbury were ready to table a multi-year offer for Hoffman and Hasler said he would have happily accepted the Mackay product if the Broncos agreed to a release.

?If he was to become available, we as a club would certainly love to have him,? he said. ?I don?t want to say a great deal about it but a lot of clubs would love Josh Hoffman.
?It?s up to the Brisbane club to work out. I don?t know what they are up to and what their priorities are, it?s really within their control.?
The Bulldogs were privately hopeful of securing Hoffman before June 30, but Brisbane?s stance leaves Hasler with a major positional headache. Canterbury are on the lookout for a fullback following Ben Barba?s departure to the Broncos and will roadtest Sam Perrett and Corey Thompson this Sunday against Melbourne at Suncorp Stadium.

Thank god for that. I don't think he is a long term answer for the Bulldogs. Would have been good for this year only, but I still think we can manage with what we have already.

Josh said in an interview on Nine news with Wally Lewis, that he never asked for a release and wants to be a one club man.

Figure that out.

Milford said he wanted to be a Raider for life last year. I wouldn't take too much out of it.

That's what I mean. Who knows with players these days. Seems one minute they're unhappy and want a release, the next minute they're excited about being a one club man.

It was similar to us slapping a Raiders polo on Milford as soon as he returned from Brisbane and uploading a picture straight to club website. Just fan reassurance.

The phone call thing seems a bit weird though. Reminds me of a parent taking his kid over to the neighbours house to make him apologise for egging the neighbours car.

shame dogs didnt have the same gun for barba.

the reason the Bulldogs didn't use the gun, is because the other players didn't want to play with him, and the club knew that could lead to a toxic environment and poor results on the field. so they made a deal with the Broncos to get something out of it, and cut him loose.

while The Raiders were upset about losing MIlford and wanted him for one more year. and the Broncos (and their players) really want to keep Hoffman.

Basically, B###a is a merkin.

This.

We as a club are desperate and this signing reeked of desperation. In my opinion only, we should be signing the man before the player and management failed the club with this "marquee" signing. Ben B###a has too many red flags in his character and we should have stayed well away from him. There may be some short term and even long term reward with the signing (B###a's rugby league talent cannot be disputed) though I'd have forgone it all and not entertained having a guy of his character at the club.

If I was the Brisbane Broncos CEO for a day I'd have:

1. Punted Anthony Griffin, appointed Kevin Walters.
2. Instructed Walters to assure Josh Hoffman he was going to be our long term answer as a fullback.
3. Put together a package that ensured Daly Cherry-Evans would not be able to say "no thanks" as he has reportedly done.

I digress...

To those who questioned or made fun of my silent protest (love the mob mentality), each to their own. My company contributes heavily to campaigns that aim to end violence against women. The allegations against Ben B###a swept under the carpet by NRL heavies is an utter disgrace and Greenberg has lot a lot of respect in Corporate Australia. Truth. Steve Mascord's position on the subject matter sums it up best.

Josh Hoffman's 180 is welcomed though I, like others, question it. I suspect he has been given the assurance from Griffin that the number one jersey is his as Griffin is going to move B###a to five-eight. The other alternate being Hoffman manned up. I'd like to believe it was the latter.

p.s. No other Broncos player mentioned is alleged to have laid a hand on a woman. Yes, they have made errors (every club has players with indiscretions off the field FFS) though none as bad as what B###a has been alleged to have committed.

Why would someone assure Hoffman he is the long term answer at fullback? He has proven time and time that he isn't our answer at fullback. That's why we had to reshuffle the team in attack at times last year cause Hoffman hasn't got a clue about ball playing.

But he is a great winger and will be much happier if that is where he start the year this year and realises that is whats better for the team in the long run.

Josh Hoffman is a confidence player and the coach backing him in my opinion would bring with it a settled player. Hoffman has shown on occasion he is more than up to being a world class fullback (he has played fullback at Test level) and I think he can continue to develop as one if given the opportunity.

Hoffman is no ### #####, but Griffin proved he's got nfi when he started Corey Norman at fullback ahead of Hoffman

It wasn't so much Griffin preferred Norman but rather the stocks were so thin he had to shift Hoffman to the wing to cover the loss.

Moving Norman to fullback only a few weeks out from the season proper was the real questionable call.

So he weakened arguably the most important position in modern football to strengthen one of the least important. He would've been better off hiding Corey Norman elsewhere, like Q-cup
