This is why we should have NSW and Qld playing in this tournament and have the Kangaroos coming together every 4 years for a Lions type tour or world cup.

Or maybe we should lower our expectations for a country with a population under 200,000. They do great to produce the amount of players they do, personally I expect more from France, Wales, PNG and to a lesser extent Fiji who have all made major strides but imo need to take that next step.

Remember a Samoan tour being cancelled due to RU team getting funding instead. About 2012 I think. They need to perform well to get sponsors etc onside.

This team will lose all 3 games. Only picking ones that don't plan on changing will get them flogged. Sadly it needs to be this way.

Not helped by ridiculoud comments like from matt parish today on 2sm. Basically some of his samoan players are using it as a trial for origin selection next year i.e mcguire, lafai and maybe another. Anyone else see the problem with this or is it just me.

Overall i think its time to draw a line in the sand and break the link between origin and international eligibility. Open it to everyone on residential basis on top of the current age eligibility criteria.

They have a rule in place - the move to Aus before your 13th birthday - they just choose to add the declare for Australia as a tie in.

I think the Aus RL are scared that a number of these players will choose Origin and another country as preference over the Kangaroos? Is that a bad thing? You should play for the country you want to play for - it is not a conscription.

Origin should be what it is, a state representative series.

id sack him on the spot

So have I just worked this out correctly that Josh Maguire could play for Samoa in 2014, then denounced Samoa and declare for Australia (with a two-year sit out) but still play Origin 2015, 2016, 2017 and then declare back for Samoa again because it is a World Cup year. Then denounce Samoa again to play Origin in 2018.

How stupid is that?

It's just baffling to me, Australians obsess over f**king Origin and then wonder why players like SBW and Burgess want to leave the sport and play RU. I just don't understand how these people can be so far wide of the mark when it comes to international RL. We all get it, so why can't they?

NZ and Eng play as many tests as Aust does so that's not it at all. Hayne left from the Aust Origin teams. So players just aren't as passionate for the game as fans are.

So what's the solution? 60% of players in U16's/18's comps over here are islander heritage. You can't force them to play for those heritage countries especially as they need to pay their own way.

But I believe many of them want to play for those countries but they also want to pick up £30k per game for playing for QLD, NSW. You have got exciting players like David Maed, Anthony Milford and James Segeyaro playing for no-one this autumn because they don't want to harm their Origin chances. It is killing the game.

you can't force them no....but they are being forced to pick australia even though they have very little chance of playing for the kangaroos just to play for a australian state!

the solution is staggeringly simple...remove australian eligiblity from state of origin....let australians with 2nd tier nation heritage play origin & for their heritage nation....simple

The very most simple solution:

Any player who moves to Queensland or NSW at the age of 12 or under is eligible for Origin regardless of their Nation of choice.

Milford isn't playing SOO any time soon though. Again his choice.

He was born in Australia. Why should he not play for them if he chooses? Any game for Samoa was a bonus for the game. Seg and Mead both moved here at a young age. So they can go to school all their lives but can't play for that country later on?

The issue is more money for the developing nations so atleast the players aren't out of pocket for playing
