Yeah they really threw the book at him with a grade 1 charge and a little tickle of the wallet....you know, coz the NRL is serious about the hip drop creeping into the game so they are sending serious message to stamp it out.

I understand loading and Tyrells form adding to the weeks of his charge, but if Saifiti gets hurt does that Grade 1 become a Grade 3? The act itself needs to be stamped out and if players get caught doing it, they need to miss weeks of footy, not get fined.
I'm getting some kind of conspiracy vibes from this - that somehow the NRL is targeting the Dragons or avoiding punishing Canterbury?

Which seems odd given he 1) got charged, and 2) has a billion priors just like Fuimaono.

I imagine if Saifiti picked up a serious injury Thompson's grading may well have been higher. I didn't think it was as obvious as Fuimaono's myself, but ultimately they're both grubs who need to get that shit out of their game.

Your vibes are way off; no conspiracy at all (the Dragons haven't been good for a decade and the Dogs are the reigning wooden spooners), just snide remarks how its only the trials and we are seeing similar tackle techniques receive such different grading from the judiciary...

Injury and outcome of the act should never come into grading decisions - if they did Fui should have copped 18 weeks and we would see very few high tackles or shoulder charges receive anything more than a fine.

Will be interesting to see as the season unfolds how the NRL pick and choose on when to make an example of a player.

No conspiracy but your post finishes with "NRL pick and choose when to make an example"

Right.

Whether you think injury and outcome of the act should count or not, they changed that at the start of the 2020 season. It's likely why Fui's tackle got such a hard grading compared to Thompson.

The MRC undertake an assessment of three key indicators when they decide on gradings; Force (Low, Medium or High), Conduct (Careless, Reckless or Intentional), and Risk of Injury (Low, Medium or High), while reducing the focus on comparable incidents. They will also consider any relevant mitigating or aggravating factors in arriving at their grading of charges.

Surely it's not a "conspiracy" to insinuate that the MRC/Judiciary have not always been consistent over the years with their grading of incidents and to expect more of the same this season....

My last line started with "will be interesting to see..." , you didn't quote that bit but that is OK, you got me I am wearing my tinfoil hat as I type this lol

My thoughts are if they are serious about eradicating the "hip drop" tackle, all offences need to be met with a minimum of a grade 2 "dangerous contact" charge; you are not going to change a tackling players behaviour by dishing out fines if the opposition player doesn't get carried off.

In the changes to the MRC/Judiciary Procedures you copied in above they reference that "risk of injury" comes into their assessment - I think we can all agree that the "risk" of injury is quite high in all hip drop tackles; they should be charged accordingly.

The fact that a player ended another players season only 24 hours earlier would indicate that the risk of injury is quite high for that tackle type, yet the next bloke that does it gets hit with a Grade 1 charge and a fine. The NRL need to go hard at this before more players are seriously hurt.

Sanity prevails. Now JD your first test of your head coaching career is to rest him from the Roosters game. No use missing him for another 8 weeks....

Yeah, I don't think it's much of a stretch to suggest the NRL and judiciary is incredibly inconsistent.

Lol this would be beneficial to both sides. No way we get out of that match without rads and JWH getting suspended.

Will I sound like a conspiracy theorist again If I think it is ridiculous that a strong cannonball tackle by Lindsay Collins that had the risk of ending Hastings season was only met with a Grade 1 Charge and a fine?

Collins not even getting a week for that cowardly attack on Jacko's legs is an absolute farce. The trials have shown that for another year the judiciary will be an absolute circus.

Tamou getting 1 week is great news for Wests because he won't plug up our pack for the Storm game.

Fair punishments are only applied when a player is seriously injured (or the offence causes widespread outrage).

The Tamou charge and the Collins charge were the wrong way around, IMHO. Tamou had about a quarter of a second to react, Collins had all the time in the world.
