You f**k up at work. The boss gives you 2 options:
1) you get 3 weekends off, at full pay
2) you get your annual pay docked 1% and get to not miss any work
im sure everyone here would be selecting option 1.
frankly the RLPA should be arguing in their next agreement to remove any ability to fine players as punishment at all. Or at least have them paid by the clubs and not the players’ salaries
The Herald said that Matterson was upset about the club's medical treatment, including during his recovery from a concussion and when he felt pressured into playing a game two days after being in hospital on a drip.
He was also reportedly furious when Maguire questioned his toughness during training and took exception to sessions that ran over time; "one of which ran 11 minutes past the scheduled finish time.".
He did not attend training sessions during last season's finals, ordered by Maguire after the Tigers again failed to make the top eight, nor did he go to a post-season bowls day with teammates.
According to Fox Sports, Matterson also spent "only an hour or so" at the club's Mad Monday celebrations - during which he copped relentless ribbing over his looming departure. It was reported by then that Matterson wanted out of the club to get more money than his $450,000 Wests Tigers salary.
This guy has form for not wanting to put in hard work and for wanting every cent he can get his hands on. He would feel he won the lotto getting 3 weeks off.
What really happened in NRL's nastiest split

Fancy being teammates with someone who doesn't have your back and would rather missing 10%+ of the season than pay 0.66% of his contract to help his teammates get a win.
Someone who complains about a bit of extra work (11 minutes ffs lol) while trying to milk the club for every cent they can and will bail on the contract the second he thinks he can get more elsewhere.
I can understand players trying to maximise their earning capacity. But this guys list of complaints from Tigers ontop of the way he is letting his teammates down for 2023 is just absolutely insane to me. It's a shame being such a good player means a club will let you get away with that shit.
99% of players wouldn't even think twice before choosing the fine. If it was a matter of principles he should have fought the charge. But i suppose he then runs the risk of not getting 3 weeks off
Maybe while he's playing still. Though after that i couldn't imagine a worse person for the job.he’d make an excellent head of the RLPA. Exactly the kind of man you want negotiating an EBA.

He wouldn't fight for players. The second the meeting looked like running over he would accept whatever offer is on the table to avoid extra work.
Unless he's getting more money he won't lift a finger. He wasn't even willing to go to the judiciary to fight the charges he doesn't believe he deserved. He happily accepted the 3 game holiday instead.
Aaron Woods gave Matto a bit of a bollicking on Triple M this morning (he's filling in for Mark Geyer who's recovering from elbow surgery). Said he is known to be a real tightwad. When he goes to practice, rather than eat the food prepared by the eels staff for the players to eat (and be charged $10 a day for it) he brings his own food from home.

He might be scheduled for off season surgery and going to miss the first few games anyway - that’s the only way this decision would really make sense.
Actually a frontal lobotomy.Quadruple bypass?
Perhaps a full tranplant?
They made their bed with JWH, Collins, Taumalolo etc so they had no choice with Milne. Not blaming Souths for exploiting this loophole, but it just shows how dumb the NRL's judiciary code is and how it is applied, generally speaking -
