Brett Stewart scored 3 tries what a great effort, he also captained the side. Also keep eye on Todd Carney from Canberra hes only 18 and a star in the making with Stewart.

   Sad but true. Looks like he only got taught how to run before he could walk.

Mateo should be a player that must be groomed to take over Wagon's lock position beyond 2005.

Well its Wagons contract year I think. I doubt he wont be resigned. Its a shame because Mateo can both Attack and Defend well but we need Wagon there as that was what we missed in 2001 IMO.

I'm a big Wagon fan when he's in form.

But I don't think he should be re-signed. Mateo is our future lock and, judging by the way he performed at 5/8 for the Junior Kangaroos, he even has the skills to play 5/8.

His versatility and talent will make him more valuable than Wagon unfortunately.

Bit of a shame really isnt it. He has never been flamboyant but done the job over the years. Mateo is our future. Wagon has one or two good years ahead of him.

A champion that can't tackle.

If you think he can't tackle then you haven't seen Brett Stewart play.

I saw him play for you guys. What stood out most was definitely his running game - kick returns, broken field running, etc.

His defence was OK for a young bloke, but nothing great.

Still, he's a talent and he'll only get better.

He has pulled of some great cover tackles, a brilliant one on Luke Rooney at Brookvale to take him into touch stands out for me.

Yeah Cliffy I know

I've seen him pull off some good tackles.

All I meant by it was that he is not consistent in that apscet of his game yet.

But he's what, 18? He's got plenty of time to imrpove. And improve he will. And if the League wasn't fettered with quality experienced fullbacks already (the likes of Hodgson, McKinnon, Hornby, etc. I refuse to say Minichiello because he sucks), he would easily break into Origin in the next few years.

When I think of Wags and Vella after next season, I think of that scene from baseball movie Bull Durham, when the team manager goes into the lockerroom, takes the reliable but not special old-time catcher (Kevin Costner) aside, and tells him he's being let go...
