I just read my local paper and it says we've signed Melbourne Storm's Junior Langi !
The article is about Langi and Kaufusi being snapped up by the Eels and because both received a contract release from their respective clubs, coach Brian Smith said they became available to the Eels "at the right price." "They're bargains,"Smith said.
It goes on to say that Langi, who spent three years with the Storm was from Auburn and wanted to return home and that Smith is mainly looking at Langi as a centre, although he can play wing or fullback...

They are a couple of handy buys but definetly not world beaters!! as mentioned before December isn't the time of the year to be signing elite players. However you I'm sure you can snap half a dozen bargain buys and thats what these two boys are!!

See Kafuasi thread about him.

Langi only played two first grade games for the storm this year but I don't know whether thats because of injury or not I may ask them. He did play several games in 01 and 02 and was known as a very good finisher. he also has the ability to play any position in the outside backs.

I saw Laingi play as a schoolboy for Trinity College and like most with Polynesian backgroung he is big, strong, quick and knows his way to the try-line. Unfortunately he also suffers from the same defensive lapses as well; but it's not like our wingers were the greatest defenders anyway. He should be a valuable addition and with Guru Jnr back, makes Petersen et.al. spots very much up for grabs. I think the jury is still out on Kaufusi.

The flood of buying average players by Parramatta was puzzling me until Smith said there that they were cheap.

Average players?? well these average players smashed your mob 74-4!!...not to mention that you payed a shit load for shit results for Chris Anderson as coach.....if anything our recruitment is alot more astute then you guys.

If anyone on this forum reckons Junior Langi is crap there struggling!!, this guy has enourmous talent but has been stuffed around & probably came into the big time a little to early for his liking!!

When i played league for Cheso Junior played a couple of years below me for Berala bears and he was part of a side that smashed record upon record & remained unbeaten for i think 3 years!!

Junior won almost every award there was and was earmarked as the next big thing in League....unfortunately injuries, Bad coaching & probably a premature rush to first grade didn't go down well with him!!

Im so excited by this signing because i know the huge potential this guy has!!....think of Willie Tonga??, this guy is taller, faster, bigger & a better defender then him!!

This guy has the potential to be a star under the right training at Parra!

Top buy Parra ;-)

You'll probably find that these guys were not "bought".

They are probably on match payments and will not be in the 25 listed NRL players.

If that's the case they probalbly don't even come under the salary cap.

That's why they are so cheap.

Your right twizzle. Their payments would come under the Premier league cap of about 500k.

I was informed by "Thunderstruck" on the Storms messageboard that he did suffer a couple of serious injurys which prevented him from playing more than 2 games this year. He was also pretty pissed to see him go.

I'm pretty sure it was Langi who scored a try against us a few years back at home to make the score a bit more reasonable.

I'm like most of us here keen to see him in action with us next year I think if fit, would have a shitload to offer us.

So what your'e saying Twiz is that we might win the comp next year with players that aren't even included in the cap?
Sounds good to me. ;-)

Reckon we could snap up Lockyer and Johns under the same circumstances??

I've noticed that a few Melbourne supporters a really disheartened at the fact that we've signed this bloke. Thinking about it now, if this guy is fit he could turn out to be a real surprise packet.

As long as it isn't that Kafusi from the game we played Vrs The Tigers 2001, That would have to go down as one of the worst displays i've seen from a winger in 25 years, albeit also being one of the funniest

Say goodbye to Willie Tonga, say hello to Junior Langi. Similar players with similar strengths and weaknesses. Not much change there....
