My point is that you want to maximise your sponsorship income and brand development in the long run, not the short run (unless you are near insolvent). I have no problem with UNE offering us money (or with that institution)......just believe that we are better off 'hastening slowly'. Given our location, 'fan' base and the broader demographics, we should be shooting to build a long-term relationship with a large corporate that does (or will do) business in town.

With respect, this statement is wrong. In April, the Fed Govt announced changes to uni funding affecting all federally funded unis (calling it an 'efficiency dividend), including UNE. UNE reckon this will cost them $4.5-$6m over the 2014 and 2015 years. And they have to work out where that will come from. And sponsorships are a fair bit more discretionary (and less popular with the unions) than salaries. This efficiency dividend has nothing to do with the mechanism of the same name affecting govt. depts.

We are in competition with 8 other NRL Clubs, 2 AFL Clubs, 2 A-League Clubs, 2 Big Bash Cricket Teams and a Super Rugby team for the Sydney sponsorship dollar. We are also running last and are the worst performed term in the NRL for the last 5 years. We have had I believe only 3 games on free to air TV this year (including the third on Sunday). Sure it is great if you can get the bigger money on offer, but in reality that might not eventuate given the Clubs current situation. If UNE are only looking at something for 3 years well given the current climate of the club and the way the team is performing that seems like a good deal to me.

I will take your word for it on the uni funding situation, but either way the Federal Government isnt going to tell them how they can market and promote their organisation even if it does cut funding. More fee paying students is more important to any Uni than unpopularity with unions.

Cool. He does a great job.

I dont know what other Clubs do in the way of digital and social media but I have to say I have been pretty impressed with what the Club has been doing on its website and on Facebook and Twitter this year. As I say I dont know what other Clubs do. Maybe they do better stuff though.

Agreed, it has been a massive improvement this year. Not sure who is responsible but they do a good job.

Ego's are just killing this club.

All hail the reigning mighty champions in regards to not performing at acceptable level in regards to an NRL club (Stuart, 2013).

basically it looks like someone ousted at the election is tring to discredit our CEO who he didn't see eye to eye with.
This is what shits me, if they are all parra fans and for the betterment of the club then why do it? It's obvious that some people are and were on the board solely for self interest .

Anyone who falls for this obvious piece of propaganda isn't too bright. Massoud and Proscenko are well known in their allegiances.
It's the CEO's job to run the business. That's how every professional corporation on the planet operates. The CEO runs the business and reports his plans and activities to the Board. The Board does not run the business. Thankfully we now have this structure at the Eels. Ken Edwards is a highly credentialed CEO and he is getting on with his job of running this business as he should.
Maybe former members of the Board are uncomfortable with our CEO actually doing the job of a CEO without interference? Who knows and importantly after the last election who cares what they think?

I must be reading a different article. The one I'm reading says UNE had a falling out with Edwards.

You must be?

This article is quite clear:
As a result, a directive was initially made for all future negotiations to circumvent Edwards.

Sharp claimed UNE sports executive director David Schmude had denied any issues with Edwards. Schmude is overseas and was not available for comment last night.

Insinuation is that someone other than Edwards had teed the deal up "initially", and then 'dun dun duuuuuh" the culprit who let the deal fall on its head is named, "Sharp".

Simple dig.

Sorry, I think I must have been reading the 2 paragraphs before the one you highlighted. I should have just skipped over it.
