I call BS on this.

All Dragons fans and I'm sure many others still remember the night in 2014 when the Dragons were robbed of a much deserved victory against the Storm when Matt Chechin incorrectly allowed the Storm a play the ball after the full time siren in which they scored the match winning try.

I'm sure Tigers fans will still be talking about this raping from the officials for years to come.

The video ref blunder at Kogarah Oval in 09 is still one of the worse decisions I recall

These don’t get forgotten

Mate, they’re still pissed off with the 1909 GF result. So am I!

By kick off on Thursday night, everyone will have forgotten about this

Nah.
Even non Manly fans still joke about 2013 when Josh Reynolds did a somersault to milk a penalty to win in golden point for the Dogs.

These type of things are not easily forgotten.

Shane Hayne was the ref that night, and I'm pretty sure that he taught Ben Cummins everything he knows.

There was so much wrong - I’d love to get a listen to what was said in the refs ear, as he was clearly being advised, yet they still cocked it up.

One of the big problems is that this does open the game up to suggestions of corruption and match fixing - I’m absolutely sure it’s not the case, but the whole way it came about, from the clock ‘1 second left’ to the ref taking instruction in his ear, a captains challenge that’s out of time and also outside the criteria of an eligible challenge and then the terrible actual call of ‘penalty’, could easily leave people thinking there’s money involved.
What makes you "absolutely sure"?

To be clear, I'm not suggesting that is what happened, but match fixing/cheating is a real phenomenon in a modern sporting world that is infested with betting. I would hope those who manage the game are not anywhere near as naive.

Just to rub it in, Holmes was offside at the kick off. If the bunker reviewed the whole play, it should have finished there with a penalty to the Tigers.

This is what winds me up about people slamming the bunker. The bunker provides all the information you need to make a correct call. It’s the dickhead in there who still can’t get it right that is the problem.

scrap the bunker or video refs and you’ll have many many more games decided by poor officials and people screaming why we can’t use the technology.

The wording if the rule clearly states full-time events at halftime, fulltime or extra-time cannot be challenged as there is no restart

I hear the Annesley session is 1:30 today

Whats the link?

This and therein lies the problem. Before the bunker existed, you could kinda excuse the ref for being unsighted or simply too far away from the play. It eventually gets begrudgingly forgiven but not forgotten. Simpler times. The game and media are far too invested in the bunker to get rid of it now. Especially with the fifty different camera angles we’re all treated to, now.

Feldt had a spill and played for it, annoying but that's what the game allows and it's permissible within the framework of the officiating unfortunately.

The bunker and Elon Butler are the merkins. Allowed the challenge in the first place, allowed it well after the allowable time period, made a shit call, didn't review the whole play. It appears on the surface that every avenue was explored to reach the result.

Annesley has said that they were correctly allowed to challenge, but the video ref got it wrong and it should've been unsuccessful.
