Justice for the Wests Tigers

There was no basis for it. There was no stoppage in play or decision to actually prompt them challenging it.

There was also a lot more than 10 seconds between the game ending with Laurie taking possession and the 'challenge' of a decision that was never made.

But after ignoring that there was no decision to challenge, and that the timer to challenge had expired. They tripled down on it by getting the decision wrong and changing the result of a game that had finished. Every official involved should be sacked for the rest of the season. This wasn't some tough 50/50 decision that had little bearing on the game. This was the process for captain's challenge done completely wrong after a game had finished and then an incredibly obviously wrong decision by the dickhead in the box to end up with what everyone knows was the wrong result.

Tigers won that game. The officials decided f**k you and decided to fix the match to the script they were expecting
23 seconds from when Laurie caught the ball until the ref blew the whistle for the challenge

There was so much wrong - I’d love to get a listen to what was said in the refs ear, as he was clearly being advised, yet they still cocked it up.

One of the big problems is that this does open the game up to suggestions of corruption and match fixing - I’m absolutely sure it’s not the case, but the whole way it came about, from the clock ‘1 second left’ to the ref taking instruction in his ear, a captains challenge that’s out of time and also outside the criteria of an eligible challenge and then the terrible actual call of ‘penalty’, could easily leave people thinking there’s money involved.

Whilst V'landys is worried about Bruno Mars and The Everest and saying 'it makes no sense', his NRL and it's game day operations are the only thing that makes no sense.

Won’t be any legal action , that’s farcical.

Nrl need to launch the officiating team to the Bundy Cup though or whatever 4 grade is these days

‘Doubt they will do much at all , Klein will get off scot free , jarhead might be in reserve grade though

poor tigers , that was the poorest decision since the 6 again in the grand final …

The problem with this outcome is that short kick off’s and drop outs are going to be used as a tactic to get downfield or potentially win a game, as we saw.

We all talk about having a “feel” for the game and anyone who’s refereed or officiated any sport knows it’s a real influence.

What we saw is a team milking a penalty which turned the game entirely. Turned elation to confusion, all because the officials panicked.

We see escorts, block plays and deliberate interference in every game.

You won’t get rid of it but surely common sense prevails when so many factors are at play. The clock, the infringement being raised, the likelihood Kyle Feldt was going to get anywhere near to the ball and of course, the rules.

A slippery slope has been formed and the NRL are losing grip.

Honestly, if you're a Tigers fan, are you looking forward to going to or watching another game this year? I mean any game.

The ''good'' thing out of this is that it's painfully obvious (as if it wasn't already ffs) that the ALL SEEING EYE which is called the bunker, is a blight on the game. The impact on the fans from the off the ball indiscretions to the absolute ball sack of yesterdays mimic of criminal activity, will see real fans walk away.

Then we have the 6 again rule that has taken the understanding of decision away from the viewers including commentary. No one has a clue, how is that good?

Broken sport.

It's probably the end of the captains challenge. Cause if the blokes in charge can't enforce how those rules work consistently (it's not like the Cowboys captain didn't know, cause he corrected a ref when his teammates tried to call one in another game), then it really should go. I do like the concept, but the BUlldogs waste them

It keeps a struggling team down the bottom and despite putting in a good performance and “winning” the game, they got nothing for it.

If you want to talk sports psychology, this is an absolute kick to the guts. It’s one thing to lose because you’re struggling, another to lose because officials can’t get it right.

The Monday morning training session would be a difficult one for the players and coaching staff but the Tigers organisation will still turn up, even if it feels a bit pointless doing so.

Tigers will get their tepid 'sorry, not sorry' from Annesley. Klein will be dropped for a week and they'll probably make Butler do the bunker next week.

It doesn't seem like a well thought out idea to scrap something that works well usually, because of one perceived mistake.

Fans and Phil Gould have been calling for the removal of video referees for almost 25 years now.

It's not going to happen in the age of 4K Ultra TV and 24hr sports channels.

By kick off on Thursday night, everyone will have forgotten about this

the only way true justice can be fished out is by firing Klein. The 2 points would be a band aid on a gushing arterial wound that the current state of refereeing has inflicted on the game.

There needs to be a complete overhaul of how refereeing works in the NRL. We spend millions every year running a so called professional refereeing team, and it’s added absolutely nothing to the league.

here is my plan.

refs no longer named on tuesdays. In fact, refs will simply be instructed to be ready to travel from Thursday morning each week. The assigned team will be informed the morning of the game and will travel to the ground. This eliminates refs being able to do any preparation based on who they are reffing that week and encourages them to simply ref what’s in front of them.

refs currently get paid up to $300K per year. This is outrageous. The salary should be cut in half to $150k, while simultaneously tripling the size of the reffing team (yes I am aware this means spending more money. That’s intentional). This means the majority of refs will not be reffing first grade. To keep their practice up they will ref QLD and NSW cup games, with NRL assignments given as an honour for good performance in the lower grades just like a player.

I would cap the amount of regular season games a ref can officiate per year to 16. This ensures experience is spread around the refereeing ranks, ensuring the next generation is always in training.

Finals assignments will be made based on performance, and will bring with them bonus match payments. Same thing for internationals. state of origin refs can be assigned via people’s choice for all I care, that series is a farce anyway.

the review system needs a change. No more taking through their decisions live. That’s embarrassing. Instead, release clear guidelines on how refs make decisions e.g. what they are checking for when looking for a knock on, what “lost control” means, define downforce, define obstruction. Then stick strictly to these guidelines without compromise.

lastly, put in place a rules committee that meets once every 4 years. This is the only time new rules can be introduced. Give refs time to at least learn the ducking rules they are supposed to be enforcing instead of changing them twice a season.

It's not like it's the first time dodgy challenges have happened. If it's impossible to enforce the challenge consistently and within a framework. Then it really needs to go.

Isn't that baby with the bathwater stuff though? It works well often, so why scrap everything for a few perceived bad calls?
