Justice for the Wests Tigers

the only way true justice can be fished out is by firing Klein. The 2 points would be a band aid on a gushing arterial wound that the current state of refereeing has inflicted on the game.

There needs to be a complete overhaul of how refereeing works in the NRL. We spend millions every year running a so called professional refereeing team, and it’s added absolutely nothing to the league.

here is my plan.

refs no longer named on tuesdays. In fact, refs will simply be instructed to be ready to travel from Thursday morning each week. The assigned team will be informed the morning of the game and will travel to the ground. This eliminates refs being able to do any preparation based on who they are reffing that week and encourages them to simply ref what’s in front of them.

refs currently get paid up to $300K per year. This is outrageous. The salary should be cut in half to $150k, while simultaneously tripling the size of the reffing team (yes I am aware this means spending more money. That’s intentional). This means the majority of refs will not be reffing first grade. To keep their practice up they will ref QLD and NSW cup games, with NRL assignments given as an honour for good performance in the lower grades just like a player.

I would cap the amount of regular season games a ref can officiate per year to 16. This ensures experience is spread around the refereeing ranks, ensuring the next generation is always in training.

Finals assignments will be made based on performance, and will bring with them bonus match payments. Same thing for internationals. state of origin refs can be assigned via people’s choice for all I care, that series is a farce anyway.

the review system needs a change. No more taking through their decisions live. That’s embarrassing. Instead, release clear guidelines on how refs make decisions e.g. what they are checking for when looking for a knock on, what “lost control” means, define downforce, define obstruction. Then stick strictly to these guidelines without compromise.

lastly, put in place a rules committee that meets once every 4 years. This is the only time new rules can be introduced. Give refs time to at least learn the ducking rules they are supposed to be enforcing instead of changing them twice a season.

They need to bring through some of the refs in QLD/NSW Cup, make some of these flogs understand that their position and livelihood is in serious danger if they can't make the right calls consistently, they're paid big money to do that.

It's not like we're dealing with a few volunteers for the local kids footy side.

I like your management style. I can see this sort of attitude will attract officials from far and wide to our game.

Isn't that baby with the bathwater stuff though? It works well often, so why scrap everything for a few perceived bad calls?

Cause it's going to impact a finals game at one point. Unless you can apply the captains challenge consistently, and really it's the rules around when it's available to use, then you just need to put it in a different grade and get it right then you can put it in the top grade again.

A Club threatening legal action is new ground.

I'd expect that could lead to a pretty strong rebuke from the NRL.

I mean, the NRL have admitted they got calls wrong before and no club has even hinted at taking them to court over it.
There will be no legal action, overturning the result would be a bigger debacle than the decision that was made.

This is different to all the other times the NRL admitted they got it wrong though. They have always been able to hide behind "oh well the players make mistakes too" or "there was plenty of time left for the team to score again". On this occasion the tigers 100% win the game because they were in front and the game was (should) have been over. It is inarguable that they would have won if not for the dud decision. For that reason the NRL can't and won't admit that they got it wrong. They will defend the challenge and the resulting bunker decision, you can bet your bottom dollar on it.

As a tigers fan I like the club loudly saying they’re exploring legal options etc. Its showing how much they care and hopefully make the NRL/referees think we won’t be push overs in future. However if they actually went down that path, or if the NRL over turned the match, it would be more embarrassing then the event in the last 90seconds of the match.

I've seen this used by fans, but not the NRL
"there was plenty of time left for the team to score again"

Because it would be terrible precedent, a decision in the first minute has as much impact on the outcome as one in the last second. There are dozens of games, that teams would argue they could have won if it wasn't for a decision made during the game (whether it be the end of the match or not).

I've watched enough of these press conferences this year (as I have felt my team got a few roughies) to know that they will say "like all decisions, it comes down to a judgement call".

By kick off on Thursday night, everyone will have forgotten about this
I call BS on this.

All Dragons fans and I'm sure many others still remember the night in 2014 when the Dragons were robbed of a much deserved victory against the Storm when Matt Chechin incorrectly allowed the Storm a play the ball after the full time siren in which they scored the match winning try.

I'm sure Tigers fans will still be talking about this raping from the officials for years to come.

Annesley needs to come out tomorrow and make zero excuses for that. The refs and the bunker royally f**ked it, in multiple different ways, all in the one instance:

- Not having the brains or the balls to call the Feldt dive for what it was, a dive

- That instance isn't even challengable under the rules. The refs don't even know what the rules they're reffing by even are

- I'm pretty certain a comfortable 20 seconds had passed between the moment the dive happened and the ref calling the challenge. He was so muddled between trying to hear what Klown was telling him in his earpiece, the players yelling different shit at him and the noise of the crowd screaming that he completely lost track of what he was doing

- The ref never explicitly asked the captain if he wanted to challenge. he had to be prodded to even bring it up

I mean turn it all the way up. This is meant to be a professional sport, and this is the garbage that the team running LAST has to put up copping from the team running 2nd. This is Rugby League, not Professional Wrestling.

The result can't be reversed without a media hurricane ensuing, but at the very least the Tigers deserve a legit apology tomorrow morning.

There we go, I just timed it: 26 seconds between the dive and the call being sent up. Farcical.
It's a joke

To clarify, Im talking about the NRL media and other fans.

every sport, the rules are opaque and genuinely say both possibilities of the decision are possible from the decision making stand point. Sport gives the referees the chance to influence every game to a degree that is over the top and if you introduce the bunker, it is just a myriad of people who over rule each other in a decision making matrix that is a big bunch of over officious bureaucracy by buearacratic impresarios.

It is nuts

The amount of challenges that are successfully overturned proves it is needed...

It is pretty simple. No stoppage no Challenge... Even so how that was ruled as an escort no one will know

Nothing says embattled club like having a game taken from you AND Tim Sheens and Benji being your coaches for the next 5 years.

Fire him into the sun. Then the sacrifice of the Tigers will not have been in vain.

Much more likely we'll see an apology to the WT club and Klein rested for a week or two. A bit much to hope he is never used in the bunker again, as his narcissistic nature makes him quite unsuitable.
