Justin Timberlake

To be pop, music needs to be simple and basically devoid of ideas and talent.

That's what makes it pop and it's why it is aimed at 14-year-old girls, which is the primary target market. They're the ones that will both buy the singles and also quickly move on to buy the next release too once they get sick of the crap they bought last week.

For the most part they have short attention spans and lack the ability to have any genuine thoughts about the music other than "hey that sounds cool, I like that". Thus, pop has gone become increasingly crap over the years.

It wasn't always like that, but then pop has only become it's own established genre over the past 10-15 years. Before that, in the 1980s, it was a wide range of music - much of it very good - that happened to be popular and was therefore dubbed pop.

That's a very broad definition. Justin Timberlake, for example, is credited as a writer on most of his tracks. While it seems fair to assume he doesn't write the music, the lyrics are most certainly his own work. And to deny that he has a unique vocal talent would be bias against his genre, as well. His music may be generally devoid of substance, but he delivers it well.

I do agree that a lot of pop music does fit your description, but on top of that, a lot of artists are incorrectly labelled as pop and lumped in with girl bands etc. Timberlake, for his part, seems to straddle the realms of pop and R&B.

luckily I live in a world completely free of such artists.
it is called triple J.

The only thing I know about this fella is he rang his mummy when he got punked....he was crying.

tbh the thing about JT is, his music is generally pretty original and innovative. Timbaland (ok, he is suffering from major over exposure atm) is a very unique and talented producer and he and JT have concocted some good stuff imo.

Tripl J has not been good music for some time now.

Yes they have high pointsa but alot of crap as well. It's biggest audience is normally uni students who claim to be "over" commercialism.

Face facts all radio is generally crap. It's why CD players now come standard in most cars

this sort of comment shytes me.

why is it triple J's fault when the music getting put out isn't your favourite?

They give aussie bands a go where no other station will.

If one of your bands ever got off their arse and came over here triple J would no doubt give them some sort of airplay.

hey Dev..how many times has big bad DT been out here to tour?

how about you smeg ..what band is Triple J ignoring ?

Well let's see, I've seen him three times in the past six or seven years and missed his tours before that. Is that often enough?

You should hear his live album "No Sleep 'Till Bedtime". It was recorded in Melbourne ...

Yes they do play a lot of crap on Full Metal Racket with the occasional good band thrown in - the same as every other program on JJJ.

JT is actually the cream of the crop when it comes to todays chart talent.

To say he is talentless or something of the ilk is pretty funny coming from some bogan league forum poster.

Everything the prick touches turns to gold, and it's not just a fluke. He's actually a bloody good muzo. Plays the rhodes, plays guitar, and plays them both well. He's got the range of a mufo aswell. Harmonically his songs are never your stock standard triad based tripe.

I preferred his stuff with the neptunes, but some of his timberland tracks are awesome. My love is definitely way more advanced than any other sh*te that hit the charts in recent times. The video production is also pretty unbelievable.

Let's face it ....if you saw the dude at northies, you wouldn't expect him to be the lady killer that he his. He's an average joe who's managed to chop the hottest women on the planet by busting a few wicked dance moves and singing falsetto. Kudos to him

But ftr ...cry me a river was/is farkin attrocious

Good to see the music snobs out in force.

Seriously what's so good about assessing music in an intellectual manner all the time, why isn't it alright to say sometimes "Hey, I like the sound of that."

Specifically on JT though I'm not his hugest fan or greatest hater either but to me he comes across as a guy who can actually put on a performance. To me there are far to many singers/bands out there today who can put together a good song but wouldn't know what a good performance was if it bit them on the arse.

Let me put it this way then - there is so much quality music out there, why spend your time listening to Timberlake?

Can someone explain to me what putting on a good show has to do with music? If that's the case then you should go and see him live but you have no reason to listen to his CDs.

I guess it comes back to that old saying mate, each to their own. What you and I might consider quality others would consider crap.

Let me put it this way.

Music is an industry that fools like you spend money on. Why spend any money on any of the idiots who cannot get real jobs as they have no useful meaning.

Anyone that's f*cking Biel is a God to me.

I dispise his music.

But his ding-a-ling has been inside Biel.

Therefore cool.
