K Locke ------> Salford

Unfortunately that hat trick was the beginning of the end for him, the injury he picked up on that goalpost collision seemed to nag him for a long time and he never seemed to gain full fitness again.

I was at that game in CHCH and that winning try was amazing , but that injury has affected him especially his speed.

The Guardian (admittedly not the best media source for League) seem to think that Locke is staying for the rest of the season. Would like clarification but these things are never transparent. I think we could certainly use Locke this season if he's staying that long.

Salford have confirmed the signing of the New Zealand Warriors full-back Kevin Locke, who will join them next season on a three-year contract.

Salford owner says as of 2015.

Salford have confirmed the signing of full-back Kevin Locke from the New Zealand Warriors on a three-year contract from next season.
Red Devils owner Marwan Koukash was delighted to announce the arrival of the 25-year-old Kiwi international as he continues to splash the cash in a bid for Super League supremacy.
Koukash said: "Kevin Locke is one of the most exciting talents in the game. Not only that but we have taken him from the NRL - something people kept telling me couldn't be done.
"This signing proves that we will be competitive at the very top of the sport.
Household name

"Kevin is one of two major signings we have made for 2015 this week and we will be releasing more information on the other later in the season."
Marwan Koukash
"I have always made my intention clear that we will work tirelessly to make the Red Devils a household name in this country and beyond and signings of this calibre - along with the other names we already have at the club and in the pipeline will begin to make this a reality.
"Kevin is one of two major signings we have made for 2015 this week and we will be releasing more information on the other later in the season."
Red Devils head coach Iestyn Harris added: "There is no doubt in my mind that next year we will have the most exciting full-back in the competition.
"Anybody who has seen Kevin play will have seen how fast he is but his game is more than raw pace. He is a class act and he will light up Super League for at least the next three seasons, of that I am sure."
Locke featured in last year's World Cup final for New Zealand but missed the early stages of the NRL season with a knee injury and has failed to regain his place from former Wigan Warriors star Sam Tomkins.

Welll let's get him back on the park for us then. No point having him hanging around in reserve grade if it's true he's staying this season.

Let's see what we'll be missing.

Locke is a fullback. He is an absolute shithouse winger

We have a fullback. Unless Tomkins gets injured, I can't see Locke getting a start.

Nonsense.

He is primarily a fullback... but he went just fine on the wing for 2009, all of 2010 and the start of 2011.

He's more than capable of playing out there.

I wouldn't mind seeing something like:

Tomkins
Locke
Hurrell
Laumape
Manu

Fish misses out and Fusitua unlucky but setup nicely for when Locke leaves.
Locke gets the edge mainly on experience over these guys for now.

Locke should be used if needed but if all things are equal I'd use the guys who'll be there next year first- we want to develop combinations. At this point I don't see him getting a lot of game time unless Tomkins goes down, Fusitua, Laumape and Fisiahi are all ahead of him in the pecking order for wing spots at this point.

IF we get Luke, do we lose Havili AND Friend? or just one of them.
Cant see either of them keen to play second fiddle

Friend only on a one-year deal anyway, isn't he? Can't see the club re-signing him at this point, regardless of whether we get Luke or not.

With Havili and Leulaui able to cover hooker next year Luke coming in means we lose one of them.

Assuming Townsend becomes our #6, there's no point keeping him either if he's full time Vulcans next year.

I'd lose Friend regardless next year tbh. If we don't get Luke I'd go after a star ball-playing forward, and use remaining money to upgrade contracts.

Have some people not seen Fishs strike rate over the past 10 games? As soon as he's back he should be on the wing. Fusitua then is unlucky. Not Locke. Some people are forgetting some of the weak performances from Kev on the wing I think.

From what I heard on the radio Kev was fairly poor last weekend anyway.

Fish has scored a bucketload of tries that Hurrell laid for him on a platter.

He had a cracker against the Tigers but other than that Fish still hasn't been all that flash.
He's a work in progress still, I'd take Locke over him any day.
