How good would Benji feel? If he has a blinder in the first 6-8 weeks he will get snapped up and Saints will have egg on their face.

Mary seems to want Benji from hearing him speak if he pulls through the first few weeks.

Benji looked pretty sharp in the NZ trial highlights. If he can start the season in the kind of form I'd be extending him by a year with another year option in our favour.

Didn't Mary say he has 2 months?

Plenty of time to stake his claim. But good to see the club keeping all options open.

He also said he doesn't think we can afford to pay him what he's worth, yet rumours suggest we're offering big dollars to other halves.

I think the club has given itself a couple of months to lure a more suitable halfback and failing that we re-sign Benji.

From what I understand, Manly had a real crack at signing Kane last year after the loss of DCE and For an before the BACKFLIP. I'm sure the ex recruitment manager whom is now the Dragons recruitment guru is right in the picture of actual $$ Figures to secure another successful offer the 2nd time around. Hopefully some inside knowledge and prior dealings will help this rumour turn our way for a change.

Would any other NRL clubs be chasing Benji? Just wondering what his fallback is if we end up getting another half.

Can't think of a club that would really need him (other than the club that loses their half to us). Is he keen to go to ESL?

Puts us in the box seat really considering clubs aren't really lining up to sign him. And Benji ain't too bad for a last resort.

Very good point.

Just reported up here that the Titans are talking to him now about keeping him long term . His manager Gavin Orr confirmed the Dragons want him . He wants it sorted this week or early next week before the season starts .

He doesn't want it dragging on according to Orr . He has 2 offers on the table so wants it done .

will be amazed if we sign him given fact Titans need him more than we do.

Both clubs should wait and see whether he recovers adequately.

Rash decision if we have made an offer.

Good way to waste a fair chunk of salary cap if club gets this wrong.

Will also destabilise Benji at start of season. No very bright.

Honestly i don't think we have much of a chance . He is the titans main player and the bloke they want to build there team around . Also they could off him a lot more i would imagine

Your not going to see whether he has recovered or not this season. He is worth the risk to sign. He is a classy young player and it would be 1st time in a long time we have had an actual half back. We would only be gun shy because of our history with Kyle Stanley but plenty of others recover just fine. James Tedesco, Matt Bowen etc. have all done ACLs and come back.

On Benji, he is old enough and experienced enough not to let this get to him. And if he is serious about playing on after 2016, he will be playing for a contract if not with us, someone else so he will want to put the best foot forward.

Just looking at the highlights reel from the weekend, I thought Benji looked sharp. The option of having Dugan outside him as a centre seems to give him extra attacking options. I would try and keep Benji around he seems to have a great influence on the rest of the team and has embraced the dragons culture. If we were lucky enough to get Kane Elgey and he eventually slotted into halfback, Benji could perhaps be used as a utility hooker / halfback off the bench.
