Kane Elgey

Sounds like the best outcome for the Dragons based on our spending power and lure.
I dont think we should judge Benji in a trial against a poor Warriors display. Benj was very ordinary in the CS as were others.
I dont think another NRL club would want him especially at the money Dragons are paying him anyway..now far too much.

will be amazed if we sign him given fact Titans need him more than we do.

Both clubs should wait and see whether he recovers adequately.

Rash decision if we have made an offer.

Good way to waste a fair chunk of salary cap if club gets this wrong.

Will also destabilise Benji at start of season. No very bright.

On the contrary, if we're serious about him, his injury may work in our favour. Other clubs may not be as keen which may drive his price down. If he killed the first few months of the season, his price would sky rocket.

Just depends if we want to take the risk and hopes he recovers well.

I'd take the risk ....great young player.

No player gets signed these days without a thorough medical check. The club would know exactly where Elgey is at before making any offer. If it's true there is an offer out then it's off base to call it a bad decision, young half versus old half and you never know when the next good one becomes available.

You make the offer

Fabulous young player who will be something special.

But, he really needs to stay at the Titans, for the greater good. Local play, born in GC. They need to keep him and I hope they do

The NRL should ensure that Elgey does stay on the Gold Coast.Additionally, they should ensure that clubs that develop Juniors such as Elgey,Hastings,Bird etc are fully compensated for the long term cost to bring these players through the system.

I won't feel sorry for the Titans at all if we get Elgey, we have not had a Gun Half for a long long time. You think the Roosters gave a f**k when they got Nikorima or Hastings or any other great talented that are locals ? Ruthless is the only way.

I never disappoint my fans.

Interestingly, I read this morning a quote by Kevin Hastings (his son played great on sat morning) about the Roosters

Was there any news of Pearce? No. The performances of Jayden Nikorima and Jackson Hastings helped keep Pearce in the background.
But comments from Hastings' dad Kevin in Rugby League Week invited further controversy. "It's just a business to them and I'm just another old player," the Roosters great said. "I say to Jackson 'Your fans will be with you all the time. The club, not so much'."

Perhaps Jackson's departure to the Roosters wasn't quite the lay down misere many on here believe.

Titans will have no trouble outbidding us.

Saints are just being used yet again to up his price.

If Elgey is ambitious and wants to win a premiership he will need to leave GC

The Titans have come out and said they will not get into a bidding war so you never know.

He is a very good player but after last season and after watching the highlights from the trial match in NZ, there is surely no way Mary is even contemplating getting rid of Benji for Elgey. Not only for the number of try assists but for the expose he gets in the media and gives to the team. I also remember early last season when was just starting to look as though the sky in fact wasn't falling. One of the 9 commentators said something negative about the Dragons and Brad Fittler chimed and said 'one thing they have going for them is Benji Marshall' and then went into a long speech about all the good he does for a team that people don't really see in games.

Elgey and Benji would however be a try creating machine.

Mate its been widely reported that Benji is effectively on notice to perform or he will not be offered a contract. If Mary was sure to keep him, he would have been signed up by now.

If we really want him to stay, why hasn't he been offered an extension already? And why does it seem we're chasing every 7 available?

I like Benji and wouldn't mind him staying, but to say that there is "no way Mary will get rid of him" is off the mark.

If the Titans do retain Elgey, another option could to have a chat to Ash Taylor or Kodi Nikorima to replace Benji. Taylor would be stuck behind Roberts and Elgey as on next season and Nikorima behind Hunt and Milford.

Yes. I think every player should be on notice to perform. The issue I have with this is the fact that last year he was certainly one of the best (easily the best according to the Dally M judges but that isn't fair as forwards never poll as well as playmakers) and check out the highlights of that game in NZ.

I find it astounding how so many homies on this forum are against him.

Anyway, I'm really looking forward to this season. BrissyRedV and I have an agreement. We are going to cease fire over the halves (I'm not a fan of Widdop but he is and vice-versa for Benji) until round 6. Given the much stronger forward pack in theory giving the halves more time, Widdop and Benji must both take the ball to the line and cause enemy defences trouble with their passing game, running game or preferably both. To simply "be composed" isn't enough for Widdop and Benji must make fewer mistakes going for miracle plays.

If you like you could get in on our agreement. I have already had the pleasure of telling "Old Timer" I told you so which isn't surprising when one considers how stupid he is but I'm supremely confident I'm going to be telling it to BrissyRedV after 6 rounds.

Widdop isn't that kind of player. I know it. He is a good player. Solid, "workman-like" but that is my major issue with a lot of these homies. Since when does a "good, solid player" who was imported because the Dragons, or supercoach Price, were willing to pay much more than the enemy for his services command loyalty Gaz, Cooper, Young and etc could only dream of?

Best option is Kodi Nikorima, by next year he would've had 2 years of NRL experience and would be capable of being a bench player if Marshall stays an extra year.
