Elgey just lost his spot to cade cust whos a virtual unknown but looks solid. Why would we want him even as a back up. So he can sit in Reggie's for years and clog up pathways.
I am so sick of this. Elgey is a known quantity he's not going to get better and certainly not here. Just like lats, allgood, Maranta etc. Fmd

Elgey is a good player. Would be a quality backup to Hunt/Norman. Not sure whether we really need him or where that leaves Field and/or Nicholls, but since when has strategic thinking mattered to StGI management?

Nicholls is now 30 and hardly a player of the future and there is no need for Elgey. I would be having the hard conversation with Dufty- commit to a shift in position to half back or look for another club. Pair him up with Field at 5/8 and get Trevor Gillmeister in to teach them how to defend and Andrew Johns for all other aspects of the halves roles. You would have a quality pair of lightning quick halves for the next five years (can't see Ben Hunt lasting that long).

Lots of sense in what you say, however we don't have Gillmeister or Johns on the books. It's more likely the coach will use Mat Head to teach them how to defend and Dean Young how to attack.

I could have sworn we purchased Hunt to play half and Mc Innes to play hooker?
If they aren't to play in the positions we purchased them for then time to piss them off and get somebody better rather than putting more square pegs in round holes.
You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear so stop trying and be focussed on the right man (namely qualified and proven player) for each position.
Hunt is playing hooker for Qld and doing a good job. If Sullivan lives up to expectations, we may have to choose who to keep between McInnes or Hunt. At this stage I would probably prefer to keep Hunt to play hooker and play Sullivan in the halves.
