OUTGOING Parramatta boss Paul Osborne has dismissed thoughts that coach Stephen Kearney is under pressure to perform or be punted next year. Kearney has long been considered the game's next big thing as far as coaches go but, outside of Des Hasler, few young coaches have made their mark in the NRL in recent years. Osborne sacked Daniel Anderson to put Kearney in the top job. "Anyone who thinks he is going to get the sack should think again," Osborne said. "I can tell you that the club has been talking about doing a new deal to extend his contract. He is the best young coach in the game." Osborne also heaped praise on the club's key signing Chris Sandow. "Look, he has that special something that not many players have," he said. "He reminds me a lot of Ricky Stuart, the way he is so competitive. He will bring the best out of Jarryd Hayne. What he did for Souths at the back end of last year, when they didn't have a forward left standing, was just remarkable. I think he is the player who makes or breaks Parramatta over the next few years and he is going to make the club." And as for Will Hopoate. "The best thing about his signing is that he has left the premiers to come to Parramatta. A couple of years back, we couldn't get anyone to come to this club."

Well I agree with the fact that he shouldn't be under pressure from the board. He needs to be given a good chance to show what he can do with a half-decent squad. IMO he must be given 2012 and 2013 to achieve that.

However, the thought of extending his contract at the moment is insane.

We do run the risk though, if Kearney is as good as the league world says he is, of getting to the end of 2012 and having him field huge offers from other clubs, for the 2014 season. Supposing he decides to sign with somebody else (in a package deal with Nolan), would we really want him hanging around for the final year of his contract?
