Since 2001 our worst season was 2004. In 2004 we won 9 of 24 games and scored 517 points to 626 against.

Now in 2012 we've won just one game and combined with 2011 we still haven't won as many games as in 2004. Remember that 2004 was the year in which Lyon left, Vaeliki did his ACL and left, Dykes was injured 70% of the time, Witt fell out of favour, Thorman was a dud, Ash Graham returned a shadow of his self from breaking his leg, Grothe got injured mid-season and was out for the year, we had Wagon at 5/8 (no passing game whatsoever), and Corey Pearson and Wise Kativerata played for us. In other words, it was unbelievably bad.

2012 is nowhere near as good as 2004. I don't think we could buy 9 wins this season. I can't see use scoring 517 points, we are currently on 179 mid way through the season. But, we have let in 324 points ....

Talent-wise this team is light years ahead of the 2004 team. Why No-Clue Kearney still has a job as coach is beyond my comprehension.

Actually our worst season since 2001 was last year.

But overall agree with you. That was a terrible season ruined by injuries when we relied on Junior Langi and Wise Kativerata to play games in the centres for us. Brian Smith signed a bunch of nuffie discards from other clubs like Shane Muspratt and Chris Muckert. Also our big hopeful signing was Aaron Cannings who suffered a season ending injury 2 or 3 weeks into the season. The team we fielded that year was terrible but we still managed to bag 9 wins.

This years team is much better on paper and we should be performing a lot better than we are.

Ah but did Brian Smith have a 5 year plan? ;-)

When will you guys learn that it is not about wins or stats. It's about... um ... um ... what is it about? How does SK still have a job???

I am sick of hearing the pro-Kearney crowd talk about what he is "building". Take your rose coloured glasses off and you will see all he is building is a big pile of sh!t.

If the Sharks do a job on us this weekend (which is more likely than not), will Mr Kearney will be given his marching orders? How bad does it need to get? Common sense must prevail at some stage, surely?

Oh yeah, from the charred wreckage of this season its just so easy to forget that last season was also atrocious.

For the longest times I've thought that 2003-2004 were our worst seasons after 1995. I didn't realise at the time that they were a picnic compared to what was to come. 2011-2012 has been an outright disaster. Brian Smith turned Parra's fortunes around in two seasons, but Kearney has a five year plan (otherwise known as "give me another contract").

The other thing that comes from the stats is that while our defense is woeful, our attack has flatlined.

That's the spirit!! :thumb

Actually, I think Easts went two full seasons without a win? `66 and `67? And then Jack Gibson came along the following year and got them into the semis. (Only a four team finals structure in those days.) So maybe I`m being optimistic. After all, you`ve got to hit rock-bottom before you begin the road to recovery, right?

And the way Stagger and Jodeci are talking, we are obviously losing Hindy etc. and replacing them with no-one and will just cross our fingers that Seage, Jennings and Eisenhuth come through and play like seasoned veterans........

We have so much to look forward to......especially with the best coach in the league in charge!!

Yes, this over-reliance on juniors is superficially attractive given the amount of talent that we have "lost". What it overlooks is that it takes a player 2-3 seasons to really find their feet in the NRL. Even Hindy only started turning in outstanding performances in 2000 after he debuted in mid-1998. So how our juniors can replace experienced first graders that we've lost since 2010: Cayless, Mateo, Keating, Inu, Reddy, Grothe, Tahu, and soon Hindmarsh, Burt, and maybe Poore and Shackleton, and still keep us competitive in the NRL is beyond my comprehension. Experience matters. A team needs a plan to revitalise itself, but its idiotic to think that experience doesn't count. Yet, Kearney doesn't seem to be thinking about that. I actually think that the most unforgivable thing about Kearney's tenure has been the disaster that is Hindmarsh's last season. Its just plain unfair. It stinks.

i know the feeling, after all hindy has given to this club for him to never win a premiership for parra is bad enough but going out with the wooden spoon as captain would be nothing short of a bloody disgrace

the team and coaching staff should be moving heaven and earth to ensure that doesnt happen instead every week brings it closer

I have to agree with all of that but some people seem to think players like Sandow, Roberts, Maitua, Keating etc can step up as senior players but those players don't appear like the ones who can mentor the young rookies and lead us from a losing culture to a winning culture. And Kearney has shown he can't do it as a coach either. We'll be even more of a rabble next year if this occurs and heads should roll if this is the plan.

I hate to admit it and am quite ashamed but I actually want us to be beated comprehensively so that Kearney can finally be shown the door. Another week of pain for long term gain. Never have I disliked a coach more than this one.
