So do you think a man who won a First Grade NRL Premiership, captained his country by age 21, served a coaching apprenticeship under one of the game's great coaches and coached his national side to a unlikely World Cup victory has achieved nothing in the game? Moreover, you think he hasn't earned the right to be highly sought after and respected?

Look, I understand that as a First Grade coach he is still a novice and has no experience. I concede that and you make a valid point. But Stephen Kearney is not some loser nuffy. As I said - he coached the Kiwis to a World Cup (I know many of you think it's no big deal, but credit where it's due - he helped New Zealand to their first ever Cup, and that says something about the man), captained them at age 21 and won a Premiership as a player. This is a man who, at the very least, commands respect. By all means, criticise his coaching - perhaps he deserves criticism. But please do not say he hasn't earned the right to be put on a pedestal. He has achieved a lot in the game already.

According to that logic brad fittler would be the greatest coach ever. The minute u take up the clip board respect has to be earnr as a coach. Not as a assistant or past player. Head coach is a different kettle of fish. People keep harping about the kiwis team but facts are he won 2 trophys when Bennett was in camp & the years he wasn't they didn't even make the final

I think he's doing a great job. There have been two, maybe three games, where the team hasn't put in 100% effort.

Aside from Hayne and maybe Burt none of our backs would crack another team. I don't know what he is expected to do with a backline involving second rowers, rookies and the two least threatening wingers in the league.

SK is doing a good job overall. there are elements to his coaching that have proven to be a bit obtuse lol, but essentially he is a rookie head coach, so its to be expected

1. As a first grade coach - YES. All that other stuff is irrelevant. As someone has already pointed out, going by your logic, Brad Fittler is the heir apparent to Wayne Bennett. Eelementary, look at it without all the emotion (as you obviously like the bloke a lot - which is your right to do). As a first grade coach [so far], he has achieved NOTHING and thus has earned NOTHING in terms of support & praise. Any talk of contract extensions (if there is indeed any truth to these stories) is purely madness - a HUGE gamble - if undertaken now.

2. See bolded section. On a personal level, yes, he deserves respect - as we all do. But we are talking about a first grade career in its infancy here. How many past players have had "potential" but amounted to nothing? This is our first grade coach. We better be damn sure he is the best option in regards to obtaining the premiership we so desperately seek before we go offering him the keys to the city.

I know the SK supporters out there will harp on about the weak squad, bla bla bla but last year, the we were at least still in the hunt for the 8 at this stage of the season. In 2011, here we are with still 6 weeks to go and our season is essentially already over. Many of you conveniently forget that DA inherited a squad that we ALL thought would challenge for the wooden spoon in 2009. He got that rabble to the GF in his first year. From purely a results point of view (which DA and MH were judged by), SK seems to have us going backwards but hey, let's start drawing up a contract extension. Look, I hope SK leaves me with egg on my face. I really do. As long time Parramatta Eels supporter, I would LOVE to see us win the premiership. If SK achieves that over the next 2 years I will leap for joy. But let's stop putting this bloke on a mantle until we see some results please.

No, according to that logic Brad Fittler deserved a chance to prove himself, which he got.

The fact he failed showed he wasn't up to being a coach. But he deserved the opportunity to try.

Kearney hasn't failed, in fact he's consistently overperformed as a coach.

Spindoctoring at its best there, Mr Escobar. Perhaps, you should write for the Tell-Ya-Crap.

If Parramatta's 2011 season is an 'overperformance', you are very easily pleased - and I can't wait for what 2012 will bring...

Now I have heard it all. If the eels made the semis, yes I would agree.

In 09 we made the finals on the back of hayne

2010 DA couldn't coach.

2011 Sk overperformed.

That'll do me

Kearney is doing amazing things with this club, absolutely amazing, regardless of the position on the table (we were always going to come last) if I was told in December that we'd be competing and winning a few with the likes of Allgood, Morgan. Loko, Lasalo and Etu in the line up i would of sent you to the nearest quack, the development of those players have been absolutely outstanding and I can see further improvement in that area. the fact that we even competing is in itself a great feat.

Seriously, how much are they paying you?

Look at the Brisbane team and the fact they got a new coach 2 weeks out from the start of the season!

You take the easy way out and rubbish all of our players because it suits your argument that we should get the spoon. Fact is that those shit players have all been re-signed by our coach, so he can't think they are shit!

We should expect a coach to get results with those players, except for Etu, they all showed great promise in the lower grades. Etu has done ok when he has needed to fill in for years!

You may be privie to behind the scenes stuff but I'm not, what I see is the same performances on the field that I have for a decade! If you would like to let us know the great things that are happening we may be able to jump on board and get excited.

Last year was garbage but we played a couple of outstanding games, including the game of the year vs Melbourne! This year we did well against a tired Dragons team and a poor ( for their standard) Manly, other than that we have bordered on terrible to uninspiring as a team!

There have been terrific efforts from individuals but as a team, we have been poor and that is the coaches job to get them to work as a team, these boys already know how to play, they have been doing it most of their lives......

Kearney may turn out to be a great coach but to continually tell us how wonderful he is when we have won 5 games and drawn 1 is just as tired as us people telling you that we don't think things are all that great until we see real results!

Have to agree with this. SK deserves our respect as a player without a doubt. But that respect has to be earned as a coach too. Paul Langmack and Terry Lamb are two of the most capped players in thr game and deserve utmost respect for that.... but they were horrible coaches.

They were, but they earnt the right to have a shot at coaching.

They failed. Kearney hasn't. That's the difference.

I never said he didn't. But respect as a player and respect as a coach has to be earned separately.

Ah, but respect as a player is carried over into coaching.

Remember coaching is primarily about dealing with people. Therefore the way a coach is perceived by his players is very important.

Anderson (for example) probably had ideas just as good as Kearney's but the players didn't respond to him the same way because they saw him as just some fat bloke who had never played the game.

You'd think they should be more profesional but these are generally young uneducated blokes from lower socioeconomic backgrounds. Not everyone is able to get through to them. I also saw this kind of thing in the army.

Went away from the gameplan. WTF was he thinking?

Pressure! He knew his days were numbered so he tried to go with what he thought would save his job, structure!

You could see all year they were trying to hold the offload and play with back line movements etc. The only issue was that it wasn't natural to them, they tried only for very poor execution!

This year we have looked rather the same and poor execution is still letting us down!

The last 3 years we have looked at our best when we play with offloads, a lot of work needs to be put in over the offseason to get them to gel with the new style that the coach wants, the players for some reason for 2 seasons now just haven't committed to it, they stand flat, don't push hard enough or over run the play........seeing as we ave pretty much the same squad next year, the penny must drop or it will be 3 years straight without success and we will be back to the 90's!

He thought structure would be better for his job security than results?

The last 3 years we have looked at our best when we play with offloads

Except we're missing 4 of our best offloaders from that period - Mateo, Cayless, Inu and Grothe.

It's a different team now.

Anderson got 2 NRL teams to the GF, and was extremely successful over in the UK, at some point teams obviously responded, regardless of your view!

There were plenty of factors that led to last years results, just blaming DA alone is as uneducated as the backgrounds that players you talk about come from.

You were in the army? That makes plenty of sense actually.

He knew what they wanted from a coach, the fans seemed to want the structure too.......in the end it killed him.

I remember plenty of people whinging about offloads from Mateo, Grothe and Inu!

Every time Grothe or Inu went to offload you could hear the crowd collectively hold their breath!

Grothe was gone from the Newcastle game last year, Tahu also lost the plot at the same time! Cayless was a couple of years overdue of retirement and Inu was one of the most hated players in the team, yet we use the excuse of them missing this year but can't for last year?
