Kearney's DUBIOUS team selections/use of the bench YET AGAIN!

But both those players were already here. The previous coach had these players as well. They're not new additions bought specially for Kearney.

So they're irrelevant.

We're talking about gains and losses from last year - this thread is about how Kearney is doing worse with this year's squad than last year's coach. Players that were here both years are constants not variables.

It doesn't matter whether they were here last year or not, what's relevent to the salary cap situation is what they're being paid now in comparison to what they were earning last year. I'm not talking gains and losses for this year, I was responding to your point that we're a million dollars under the cap for 2011.

All irrelevant. The good players we have this year were also here last year. However many of the best players from last year are no longer at the club. Poore and Reddy have a long-term injuries.

For the purposes of discussing player talent we are a million under the cap - five of last year's first team are gone and only one was replaced with an established first grader. The rest were replaced by last year's reserve graders.

That comes down to how you value every player monetary wise. You can say we lost a million dollars worth of talent, but that's subjective and not taking into account what those players were actually earning, and assuming that all our 2011 signings signed for bottom dollar which may not be the case.

Not by me.

I picked us to finish 9th-12th and that's only because of the quality of our coach. With the players we've lost we should be challenging for the spoon.

So u admit where we are sitting he has failed to meet ur expectation so far since we are sitting 13th

Poupou, you were the one who made the claim that this year's side is a million dollars under the cap.

Because it effectively is.

We have replaced Mateo, Inu, Grothe, Tahu and Cayless with Casey McGuire and a bunch of reserve graders.

Add up contract values and you can see why $1000000 was the value thrown around at the start of the year.

You're right that we don't know the amount but when we're discussing the amount of quality in the team all we can look at it player gains and losses.

So you can't make that claim and then turn around and say we're not talking about dollars we're talking about quality. If you hadn't made that statement then nobody would be discussing it.

We were always talking about quality.

Why would be be discussing money when the topic of the thread is Steven Kearney can't coach? The allegation is he's inherited a team which won more games last year. The reality is this team is short a million dollars worth of player talent.

If we are a few hundred thousand under the cap its irrelevant what the roster is like all that matters is how much we have spent.

The argument was about how Kearney's done less with the side than last year's coach.

I put it to you that last year's team had at least a million dollar's worth of extra football talent.

Every argument here has been about how much under we are. Hence why our roster is supposedly crap.

We already know the roster is crap. We've lost five first graders since last year and replaced them with one.

Now ur saying our roster is crap so its irrelevant how much we are under now

I'm saying because the roster is crap we must be shitloads under. That's how we were able to go on a spending spree for next year plus front-load all these contract extensions into this year.

Well you don't know how much players are on so why comment on absolute values?

All we have to go on are player gains and losses, and we've lost far more than we gained.

If last year's squad relied on contract back-loading then it's even more criminal they didn't make the finals.

That comes down to how you value every player monetary wise. You can say we lost a million dollars worth of talent, but that's subjective and not taking into account what those players were actually earning, and assuming that all our 2011 signings signed for bottom dollar which may not be the case.

It's irrelevant what they're making because we're not auditing the salary cap.

How much quality have we lost since last year and how much have we replaced them with? If you're not comfortable giving them a dollar value then rate them out of 10 (or another scale of your choice).

Personally I rate our aggregate quality loss to be a million dollars, which was the figure thrown around in the media at the start of the year and had all the fans up in arms.

It's beside the point you f**king moron.

We're talking about the quality in the roster. We have much less quality than last year.

We have so much less quality it's a joke. This is the squad Kearney has to deal with. No previous coach has had to deal with this.

Stop clutching at straws and arguing the value of player salaries and admit Kearney has a shit team to work with. This is the point here.

You can name call all you want, you are not clever.

We have added 3 players to our existing squad, we are losing Reddy and Robson. You say we have no quality, seriously? You think Sandow, Roberts and Tonga will make us a top 4 side

We will have largely the same quality, or as you say, a lot less than everyone else, a million dollars to be exact, add 1 starting first grader and 2 fringe first graders and we are a top 4 side?

Your arguments don't add up, I'm am sure you will come back with how stupid I am and make up something though.......

The selections last night really got me beat.

If O'Hanlan was going to be used it shouldve been just after half time give him 20-30 minutes and then throw a fresh player on there.

Almost the same as last week, our forwards were getting tired but still played more minutes.

It didnt work last week and last night. Things have got to change.

FFS half you "fans" are so fickle that if we had won by 1 point, the topics would have revolved around "Kearney's excellent coaching".

And complaining about Robson being selected after so many Eels fans were asking for Robson to be selected? FMD.

Good point. A more rational use of the bench is probably the difference between us sitting on 15 points as opposed to 19 points. If you've got 17 players it's better balancing out the minutes then letting tired players run around dropping off tackles and making silly errors. It's all what ifs though.

Boxie, don't include me in the Robson fan club, always said he couldn't play, he is a reserve grader full stop

Shows how we screwed up in securing him, and the geniuses who let Maloney, Hodkinson etc go, and that wasn't SK.

Robson was re-signed after we made the GF in 2009. Earlier in '09 Finch quiet, and our replacement halves combo in Mateo and KK both suffered long term injuries in the same match. I think any coach would have re-signed Robson after after '09. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

I don't think so. We would've said we were lucky after looking like gooses in the first 15mins.
