Keeping Mark In League

On Sunday Roast the boys where discussing making money to, keep Mark in league

To be quite honest, its a good idea but I think if you have to do it for one player if they all decide to go to union then you have to do it for the rest.

I heard from a little birdie that Joey never was going to go to union he just wanted some limelight

Do you think that League should be raising extra money to keep Mark with league or should they just let him go to union??

Personally I would like him to stay in League:cry:

As a Dragons supporter, I naturally want Gaz to stay, but as far as making new rules to accommodate certain players, NO GO.
No player is bigger than the game. Our code will not die if we lose a couple of stars to Rugby Onion. If they want to go over the fence, let them go, the sun will still rise tomorrow, it wont be Armegeddon. :)

It would be nice to see gaz stay in the league, as he's one of the best in the NRL, but if he wants to go to rugby, let him go.

a professional player's shelf life is a short one, and i wouldnt begrudge a player making a move which will pay him more money, but the rules dont need to be changed so we can compete with union, because financially, NRL cant compete with union. they dont have a cap, and the ARU will happily step in to help a player move across. if we set a precedent like this, every player manager in the game will start making noises about their player considering a move to union, so he can milk more money. if player wages make up too much of a club's annual turnover, they will go bust.

the game is big enough to let a player like gaz go. another star will step in his shoes soon enough.

As a QLD supporter I would have liked Johns and Gasnier to go to RU just like all the QLDers that nobody contributed a penny towards stopping (Tuqiri, Sailor, Rogers).

So you would rather not have the opportunity to witness the skills of these 2 players in the origin series, and hence a game of lesser quality, so your team would have a better chance of winning? I would have loved Sailor, Tuqiri and Rogers to all stay in league so we had the best competing against the best. I can see where you're coming from but I don't agree with your stance, sure support your state but if you really wanted to win wouldn't you prefer to beat a full-strength outfit?

They can go if they want, no special privaleges. You either want to play league or you don't, if not, get nicked.

I do admire Mark, best centre going around, shame to see him go, but don't expect the game to die because of it. Will be missed but will be forgotton eventually.

What I think is strange is this

If the players love the league so much wouldn't you think money shouldn't matter that there heart should be with the game?
Because I know if I liked a certain sport I would rather be happy then money hungry

Well its quite obvious then. You are delusional, just like 99% of League fans. I wonder if they suck News LTd's tripe but spit at the end, or do they swallow it ?

The guy is still young, wouldnt surprise me if he took a 3 year pay day then came back to league. I seriously cant see gasnier making the same sort of noise in Yawnion that he does in league.

mate, i have a family and a mortgage to pay off. if someone offered me double what i am earning now to do a slightly different job, and for a different firm, i think i would take it!

its as simple as that.

now in the age of professionalism, a player has more to think about than just playing the game he loves, its also his job that feeds the kids and pays the bills.

i'm sure gaz would love to stay at the dragons, but if someone is offering you a payday like this, you have to be realistic. i know i would be.

if his heart was in it he would stay in league, somethings in life are more important then a money grab. if i was in his position i would stay in league for the pure passion. most people would kill to be a pro player and it kills me when players with talent just waste it with controvery, wrong doing and showing no loyality to the club and when i mean loyality i mean not having to flurt with union to increase your price.

That's a pretty lame argument based on the avg NRL salary, let alone what he's probably on. He should be well set up already, even at his age.

salary cap only works if the NRL was the only league comp in the world, cos the players would only have 1 place to work. the fact that there are competitors vying for the players provides players more choice, ie union and SL.

the NRL is suffering from this.. all this talk about how the game can continue... im not as sure.. the quality is dropping dramatically. its like watching a bunch of amateurs more rather than a professional league at times.

salary cap needs to go up to compete against the other comps and to bring in new players as they would be able to see that there is a future in league. every player is now younger cos they're cheaper and all the experienced players are going elsewhere. its turning into mcdonalds!

IMo his manager is doing alot of under the table stuff, Michael O'Connor said that George Mimis approached the ARU first, and I can see truth in that.

If gaz wants to follow the lead of his money hungry manager than he can leave.
