Paley, so who from the NRL do you reckon will be playing in the 2007 Rugby World Cup?

Rogers,Tuqiri,Sailor and most probably Gasnier.

You can call it the 2007 rugby world cup or the 2008 league world cup, unfortunately there are 2 codes of rugby-rugby league and rugby union. If you had the money to waste ,you could probably take out an injuction to prevent the usage of the word rugby only in the world cup.
ill go along with what the new Qld Reds boss says and call it union,he must know something.;-)

I call them League and Union.

Having said that, Paley is obviously trying to mess up a thread with tripe. Best to say Union or League to avoid confusion.

Originally the Rugby Football League and the Rugby Football Union were rugby codes but with different rules.

Over recent years, both rugby codes in Australia have dropped the use of "football" from within their marketing titles. For example, the "NSW Rugby Football League" became the "NSW Rugby League". Similarly, the NSWRFU became the NSWRU.

Union's hijacking of the name' rugby' is an attempt to enforce the notion that League is the bastard offspring of Union.

My understanding is that the first ever Rugby World Cup was the Rugby League tournament in France in 1954. Union has since ripped it off.

In France, Rugby League's name translates to 'Rugby 13'. Some of our French forummers may have to elaborate but I understand that League is quite commonly referred to as 'Rugby' or '13' amongst French League supporters. Happy to be corrected.

IMO, Union's claim that the Rugby World Cup was first played in 1987 is incorrect, and joins other myths such as the William Webb Ellis fable.

Rugby League will never die, but we can't afford to lose players to the rival code merely because of the benefits they get out of it. They got a ridiculous amount of hype and publicity out of signing sailor and others. This can't be allowed as it gives them a massive free kick.

What the solution is im not sure. The salary cap is important. What I would like to see is the use of more 3rd party agreements. As a code we should never ever turn away new money that can come into the game via any source. Players should be able to make money if it doesnt force the clubs or the NRL to put their hands into their own pockets. This keeps players in the game and gives them added exposure and therefore free publciity for the code.

Who's messing up my thread :(

Oh well back on to the topic

I heard on the news that all clubs are losing money not making money except for the Broncos, they save money on stupid things like there pathetic mascot etc.

So I don't know if bringing new players into the clubs are going to do anything to help the League??

I'd take notice of your thoughts if I gave a rat's freckle about Victoria, Sth. Australia and Tasmania. Are you John Ribot's love child? Do you have, THE VISION ? You carry on more like a Trouser Snake than a Taipan.

At last reports those states were part of this great continent.
If you only want to play with yourself in your own backyard ,thats your problem.
My only vision sunshine is to have the game of rugby league growing nationally, you dont appear to see past your navel.I have played both games, and hear how they are referred.
Ribot is was and for ever more ancient history, drag yourself if its possible to the present.

It so happens that I represented the Northern Territory against WA for 2 years, but you failed to mention those areas, even though they are also part of this great continent, with a far better chance of succeeding than those you mention. Rugby League in Tassie, give it a rest Taipan.

Good on you for repping, I didnt so you are one up on me.
However you obviously dont understand my point, that the name rugby is used in these southern repeat southern states.I am also aware of rugby league's popularity in the NT.Did I suggest Tasmania for an NRL side ?
I will mention WA if you want, because the dumbest decision ever made was to pull out of Perth.I still maintain you dont ignore Vic now that govt support not inconsequential is being made. You and i differ on this.so be it.NT just doesnt have the financial infrastructure for a team.
