But the morons didn't want him anymore....
Maybe didn't fit the mould as he is a terrific fellow.

More seriously its a pretty special thing he is doing. People might think he is just benefitting from that style of play and just a finisher, but the style is benefitting just as much by having him at the end of it

100%. Classic example from Sunday. Keary threw a terrific long ball, but Naiqama run an outside-in line and we covered him easily. If that's AJ he hits the ball at pace and goes over in the corner without a hand laid on him.

His positioning as a winger is probably his greatest strength. He knows where to be at the right place at the right time, and anticipates it better than most. If Walker or Latrell are close by, he is on red alert because he knows somethings brewing.

If anyone thinks that, they're not quite up with the pace.

Amongst other things, it is an incredible achievement to keep fit enough and on the field long enough to score that many tries, to maintain form, the hunger, all of those intangible things that aren't just related to catching a ball and running over the line. I've never played a game of league in my life but I've watched a lot, and I know there's so much more to his game than 'just catches it and scores'. For a start, if he was defensively mud, couldn't catch a bomb etc, he'd never get picked and wouldn't be able to score 166 tries. Yeah he's benefitted from being in a side that competes more often than not, and being a left winger on their attacking edge, but that alone doesn't carry you to top 5 all time.

And if it was so easy, everyone would be doing it. And they ain't.

I love AJ. Great bloke and player. Enjoyed watching him tick up these tries. One day, he might break the record and it would be amazing.

Ken Irvine played at Norths from 1958-70. Norths made the finals twice in that 13 season period. Got a wooden spoon too and missed much of 1968 via a broken leg. His achievements are phenomenal. Should be an immortal.

He was a great player, but not all great players are deserving of being an immortal. That's why there is a Hall of Fame, and he was the 61st inductee (https://www.nrl.com/hall-of-fame/players/ken-irvine/).

As it says on the NRL Hall of Fame website (source: https://www.nrl.com/hall-of-fame/immortals/) -

The Immortals of rugby league in Australia are 13 players named as the greatest ever.

To be chosen as an Immortal is the greatest honour a player can receive and it is widely considered that to earn the accolade he needs to have changed the game or had an impact beyond his career.

I don't know if Ken had that kind of impact. I mean look at the list of current immortals (source: https://www.nrl.com/hall-of-fame/immortals/) -

Nice research.

The only ones I haven't seen play are Burge, Brown and Messenger. Not sure about Churchill.

Tempting fate here, but it's worth another bump.

Alex Johnston has now moved to third overall with 184 tries, just 6 behind Slater and 28 behind Irvine.

7 more tries to move into 2nd place, and also 7 more tries to break Slater's record of most tries for a single club.

He passed another of Irvine's records on Friday, now scoring multiple tries in 51 games.

184 tries from 210 games overall at 0.88 tries per game.
161 tries from 149 games on the wing at 1.08 tries per game.

He is still only 28 years old too.

Crazy, crazy numbers.
