Kimmorely at the Crossroads

Hi guys, I'm an Eagles supporter, but have been glued to this post, as I could tell where it was going to head. I'm also respectfully understanding of where some of you are coming from, and agree with the sentiments.
Kimmorley unfortunately has his own style of play that actually worked when he was at Melbourne, because the style was fresh and innovative at the time. Unfortunately, styles change in the game of rugby league, and Brett Kimmorley wanted his known style of play to continue with him wherever he went. Unfortunately in todays game, a true half back needs to be able to adapt to new playing styles. Manly was ridiculously dominant in the mid 90's for example, but their style of play today would be slaughtered.
Kimmorley bought his flat style of play to The Northern Eagles, and it didn't work. He was our marquee player. Legendary players like O'mealey & Beaver just couldn't work it out. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to gel with The Sharks way of play either. You guys have an awesome back row, and when fit, a great powerhouse front row. If you guys snared a 1/2 back like Kurt Gidley, who plays with a team who also has a similar style of play to yours, I think you'd be doing much better. That's why you have been winning without him there.
The funny thing about this thread, is that it's like I'm reading stuff I used to read years ago on The Northern Eagles forum. I don't know what you can do about it though guys. He's probably your most highly paid player, and I doubt he would ever spend time in Premier League. Maybe Dykes could go into 1st receiver more often. He seems to be able to play ad-lib a bit more, and execute it quicker. I'd say your best 1/2's combination would be Dykes 7, Vagana 6. Then buy a big gun centre in Jamie Lyon or something.

Black tip Reefy.

I have criticised you before but I commend you today on your analysis.

Tough decisions about Noddy have to be made.
Who at the Sharks club has the balls to do it?

Give me a team of "team" players and you will see the Sharks win the premiership.

Under pressure we all go back to what we know.
Is it too late for Noddy to learn how to be a team player???

ML, I don't like the use of him not being a 'team player' and tend to agree with Reefy's suggestion that Noddy is too stuck in the old style that it is harder/impossible to change. Although I tend to think, how he played today was different to the beginning of the year.

Someone commented on 2GB yesterday that the reason the Sharks play better when Kimmorley is out is because they rely on him too much, i.e. they lift when he's not there, but drop their intensity when he returns because they are waiting for him to create something. There was definitely evidence of that in the first 50-odd minutes yesterday, some of our defence was disgraceful

Kimmorley was very quiet in the first half but certainly came good in the second, getting us back into the match. Unfortuantely the damage was done

Looking forward to next week

some assumptions here is that the drags 2 weks ago and the raiders last week played as well as the bulldogs yesterday

we played crap teams and came up against a real team

thats the story

Wonder who the someone was. It's an interesting take isn't it. The "one man team" theory in reverse. When we have our "man" we lose.

Brilliant deductive reasoning from the speaker.

as much as sunday was a dissapointment, the next month should be real interesting. I dont mind kimmorley, i wasnt a wrist slasher after the game but i am keen to see how the side fares with him back. All comments in this topic, i agree, have been good and i cant wait till saturday night - for good or bad. With a game under his belt, kimmorley may go well but im not that confident about it.

Too long ago to remember Jimbo.

The past is the past.

Thats where Kimmorley lives.

Kimmorley's not the player he was so bringing up stats from long ago are a complete waste of time

I have read a lot of these posts over the years - I have too voiced my disappointment of Noddy but I cannot read any more of this without comment.

Noddy returned from injury - he was rusty - but he played differently and was creating some opps. I'll grant he made some mistakes but I thought he played fairly well and (as usual) put in.

There seems to be a number of people around who put Cronulla lost and Noddy played badly in the same sentence. His kicking game was a little rusty first half (but Noodles has been there every week recently and almost knocked the back fence down from grubbers on a couple of occasions).

How about we just accept that if we lose it isn't always his fault - some of the forwards struggled and the Scott/Covell defense got caught a few times. They are a pretty good side - they had a try disallowed late that was imo a try and we were missing some key players as well.

Noddy is the best option for the 7 jumper and still a class player.

The dogs yesterday were a lot better than any of the teams we played in our 4 game winning streak excluding the cowboys.

Noddy was far from our worst, I think we miss Vagana more than people realise. Noddy hasnt played with Vags yet this year has he? Vagana reads the play a lot better than our centers on the weekend.
