All of the contemporary thoughts have to go for the kiwis to stand a chance.

I'd have Pritchard in the backs just smashing into his Aussie counterparts at full pelt (with or without the ball). He can interchange with SBW. Put the big blokes onto the little guys, move up and force the errors. Get the defence to slide with speed. Good wrestles in the play the ball too. The Aussie backs arent as elusive as they look.

We will see how Issac Luke goes at half this weekend. Im betting he can handle it.

Pack the forwards and the bench with the biggest, meanest sons of bitches we can get our hands on. Smash Thurston, Lockyer & Slater, and BAM! we've got a good chance of winning.

Yup exactly Mannering and Manu would be the only 2 Warriors that would be selected, sucks that Manus injured.

and lance, he's the form fullback in the NRL.

and sammy rapira.

Lance aint in the team - even though he deserves it. Neither is kidwell or benji.

SBW Captain.

Asotasi to the bench. Lima, Cayless starting.

Betcha it will be the team I pretty much predicted. Hopefully they go with someone other than covell to replace manu.

Why's that, Doogie?

I think Mannering has done enough to get picked. He's a very consistent and solid player, with a big work-rate.

I would rather have Jeremy Smith rather than Mannering. Mannering plays 80mins regularly not sure about Smith and Fa'alogo doesnt either.

Im sure smith is capable of playing big minutes. Hopefully they name all of them.

2 Shaun Kenny Dowall
3 Steve Matai
4 Simon Mannering
5 Jason Nightingale
6 Ben Roberts
7 Nathan Fien
8 Roy Asotasi
9 Isaac Luke
10 Nathan Cayless
11 David Fa'alago
12 Frank Pritchard
13 Sonny Bill Williams

14 Sam Rapira
15 Adam Blair
16 Greg Eastwood
17 Lance Hohaia

Hohaia would come on for Luke with Fien to hooker, then Luke would come back on for Fien or Hohaia would go back to fullback, Perrett to centre and Manering to the forwards.

the suprise is asotasi dropped as captain and to the bench. apparently.

He would of been close to being dropped altogether and have rapira in their instead, especially if Bennett was head coach.
We know he wouldnt put up the crap what happened last lyear.

He hasnt got enough mongrel, I agree he gets through a hell of a lot work but Carl Webb will make him his b*tch they way he did Bailey a few years back in Origin.

Someone said in this thread the only chance we have of winning is if we pack the team of mongrels and injure the Australian Key players, as silly as it may sound I think its the only shot we have as we cant stack up against them skill wise. Leave Mannering out chuck in Fa'alogo, Matai, Kidwell, Pritchard even Fien is a bit of grub!

Matai will fire NZ up

Jason Avedissian
30 April 2008

FORMER New Zealand coach Graham Lowe is urging Kiwi selectors to forget the past and pick fiery Manly centre Steve Matai for next month's Test against Australia.
Matai's last appearance for New Zealand saw him sent off for a high shot on Australian centre Mark Gasnier.
The indescretion led to Australian coach Ricky Stuart labelling Matai a "cheap-shot merchant".
If named in the Kiwi squad, Matai will again go head-to-head with Gasnier when the two teams clash in the Centenary Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground on May 9.
"He would be the first bloke I would pick," Lowe told The Manly Daily during a round of golf in Brisbane yesterday.
"He's the sort of player they need. He's got experience and is a professional player.
"It (the send-off) was just one of those things that happens in footy.
"I don't think he will let the team down.
"If it had of come off, he would have been hailed a hero."
Matai, who has played two matches for Manly after recovering from off-season surgery, said the Gasnier tackle was "unfortunate."
"I didn't go out there to hurt anyone," he told the Daily yesterday. "It was unfortunate what happened. It was just a big hit that came off a bit wrong.
"I don't listen to any of that (Stuart's comments). It's water off a duck's back really.
"I'm not going to change my game.
"If playing hard and running the ball up hard is a crime ... then lock me up."
Kiwi selectors held a tele-conference last night with a squad likely to be named this week.
Selector Darrell Williams said Matai's tackle on Gasnier will not count against him.
"That was a brain explosion," the ex-Manly centre said.
"He knows we don't condone that sort of stuff.
"If he was a repeat offender at that level then it would be a problem."
Matai said Test selection was not a priority now as he continues his comeback.
"If I'm lucky enough to get in, then I will be glad to play," Matai said.
"I'm not thinking about it at the moment."
