Slater was in no way whatsoever defending himself. He cold cocked a bloke who drunkenly pushed him.

Nothing like what Packer did but it should not have been applauded by anyone band should have drawn some sort of punishment

I thought it was harsh until I read the details of the assault. However I can understand why some think the punishment was too harsh when you consider guy who punched and killed Thomas Kelly only got 4 years.

Never heard of coward punch. A 'King Hit' is a specific type of punch, a very hard single blow aimed to the head and normally completely unexpected by the victim. It's just a term to put emphasis on how bad it is. And no 'King Hit' is not a legal term so it's different to the very broad term of assault.

Mr Grogan told the court that Packer punched the man in the face, causing him to fall and hit his head on the ground.

Packer punched the man several times as he lay on the ground and then stamped on his head, the court was told, leaving the victim with two fractured facial bones.

If someone else had of done this to packer can you imagine the outrage that all of his 'brothers' would have? It would be all 'gutless coward' this etc etc

I think he needs to serve whatever punishment the authorities decide is suitable for him... But the bloke needs to comeback to be a contributing member of society... So If he is supported by his friends and family than that's only a positive...

I think rugby league is secondary here... The bloke will be very, very lucky if he gets to play in the NRL again.

Everyone has the right to free speech.

They need to be prepared to cop the criticism for coming out publicly and doing so.

At the end of the day... Unless it's through an official club channel... Which twitter is not.... The club can only distance themselves from it and ask the player to reconsider the stance they have made.
