Can't agree with you there. The sentence has been handed down and rightfully so considering the current push for tougher sentencing laws re alcohol related violence.

The Kelly family's petition supporting three additions to the Sentencing Act has already attracted over 120000 names. There is soon going to be massive pressure on the state government to reform the NSW Sentencing Act. The community and police are pleading to have the sentences re alcohol related violence changed. It would not be welcomed news by the community if Packer gets off.

Take a look and sign up if you're interested.

that has nothing to do with the petition you moron

if they change the law they can't change sentences imposed before then

Never said they could. Moron.

I said I would be shocked if Packer gets of due to the appeal and does not face any jail time. I also believe the community would now be outraged if that happened.

The petition is a way of showing your support for those who use the "cowards punch" so the sentencing laws for that type of thing are changed. It's topical at the moment El D, in case you've missed it.

you are harping on about a law change that may or may not happen as if it has some relevance to Packer's appeal

Never an official suspension, just not going to register his contract for 12 months

The NRL has refused to register the four-year contract Packer signed with the Knights in October, and Fairfax Media has been told the league will not reconsider that position for a year unless he and the club can convince them otherwise.

"That ruling will not change for 12 months unless he can demonstrate his circumstances have changed, his behaviour and attitude have improved, and that he is a fit and proper person," said a source with knowledge of the process.

No. I made a comment that the community would be outraged if Packer's sentence is quashed and he in fact serves no jail time after what he did. It was an alcohol fuelled violent assault. It's topical at the moment. Also topical (and unrelated to the Packer case because his victim did not die) is the push for tougher sentencing laws to alcohol related violence (of which Packer has just been sentenced for) and the cowards punch (for which another young bloke has just died from). The petition is now in this thread for anyone interested to look at and do something about.

There have been many posters in this thread who have been scathing towards Packer and what he did and what a better way to support future victims if these types of attacks than to sign the petition. You never know El D, someone might line you up one day. Would you want the perp to get off lightly?

If you are talking about whether or not people would be outraged if Packer served no jail time then of course its relevant.

i've signed it and i hope others take the time to do so. it doesnt guarantee anything will be done but it hopefully puts pressure on the powerbrokers to start doing whats right for the community instead of their own vested interests
