You know what... I actually don't mind seeing them come out and support their mate...

I would probably do the same...

I think they probably need to be careful and show some care for the victim in this...

But they have every right to publicly support their friend if they feel like he was dealt with harshly.

I don't necessarily agree with them... But it's often times like this that you find out who your real friends are.

Would you want to be friends with a bloke who:

Mr Grogan told the court that Packer punched the man in the face, causing him to fall and hit his head on the ground.

Packer punched the man several times as he lay on the ground and then stamped on his head, the court was told, leaving the victim with two fractured facial bones
.

If someone else had of done this to packer can you imagine the outrage that all of his 'brothers' would have? It would be all 'gutless coward' this etc etc

I am not condoning Packer's actions in any way, shape or form.

What I am doing is displaying the hypocrisy of what is a violent act. Whether it be in the context of a contest (such as sport) or in the full view of the community.

For example, back in the 80s, Les Boyd smashed Darryl Brohman's face in a State of Origin. Boyd got 16 weeks suspension, I think.

If Boyd did the same thing to Brohman while out in the community, what penalty would he receive?

Not two years in jail. Packer must have had some quite serious prior offences if this is the case.

There is no hypocrisy at all and no similarlarities what so ever.....
Im f**ked how a normal thinking person could even suggest there were.. wtf are you smoking ?

How is it hard? One player was defending himself and showed control. The other tried to kill someone and showed no control at all.

Lol . Just shows doctors have f**kwits amongst them like every other trade or profession in the community.

Ps... go to a 24 hour medical centre if u need proof.. the letters DR doesnt mean you are not a genius.

You can support a mate without posting on a public forum though.

That's just narcissistic posturing. Clubs will almost certainly ban players from social media soon, to protect them from themselves more than anything.

I don't remember anyone congratulating Slater for his punch. The UK police investigated and found he had no case to answer.

A very stupid comment from a trained medical profession.

Unbelievable how harsh that sentence was. Great to see a magistrate with balls.

I have honestly seen worse assaults and the Accused has gotten no gaol time at all. Well done. Time to stamp out violence the hard way.

In saying that, Packer will probably succeed in his appeal and get the sentenced dramatically reduced. If not let off with some bonds and fines.

This, ladies and gentlemen, is justice.

I thought it was harsh until I read the details of the assault. However I can understand why some think the punishment was too harsh when you consider guy who punched and killed Thomas Kelly only got 4 years.

Why do australians have to have tag lines like coward punch or king hit which is simply termed assault elsewhere?

I think you need some comprehension lessons mate. He was criticising guys like Sheens who said that Slater punching that guy showed he was a real man, not criticising Packer's sentence.
