Not Hagan - you can keep that plodder.

Give us back Rip Taylor you bastards.

You can have Trent Robinson. He is supposed to be the next big thing you know?

you got to hand it to Trent...he was apparently 8th choice in taking the PL job, Smithy had to plead with him to come back from France

I'll tell you one thing for nothing - players like Cory Paterson, Terrence Seu Seu, Jarrod Mullen, Aku Uate, James McManus, Kade Snowden and a few more you will hear about before the end of the year have 'designed and manufactured by R Taylor, 2006' tattooed on their arse i think.
The guy has been turning out champion forwards for 30 years - names like harragon, Muir, Howe - all the way back to the Wynn brothers.

Corey Patterson does look the goods.

Jarrod Mullen should never have been picked for Origin this year.

Why didnt the knights risk putting Rip in there first place rather than smith, it would have been a hell of a lot cheaper.

i freakin love Trent Robinson!!
It's not the same Trent Robinson who played JF winger for the Knights in about 2000 and went on to be a male model and had a small acting part in the last Star Wars movie - it is some ugly bloke from Penrith who sacked one of our best half prospects (scotty Dureau) because he was too creative.

Trent Robinson, big blonde haired guy that used to play for the Tigers, then us, then went to France.

I don't know about his coaching abilities but i always thought he was a very smart footballer, a backrower i think?

He was a personal trainer who used to have a column in Cleo or Cosmo or something.

Back when he played for us (2001, 2002 i think?) he was always a riot!

Stories at the time of the big coach swap were that Smith told Rip that he was a poor coach and had no future at the Knights (told Fairleigh the same) and both followed Hagan down to F3

that wasn't the story in Newcastle. Rip was offered a chance to continue coaching Flegg at the Knights for the love of the job and some pocket money - or he got a full time paid coaching gig in PL at parra - not a hard decision i suppose.
I know Rip always had a job to keep a regular income - but he has managed to put in plenty of time with his team.
One funny thing i remember - he had to go away with the NSW country rep team about 5 years ago when his club side, Newcastle Rosellas, was playing a knockout final the same week. He was asked what he was going to do to get a coach for the Rosellas, and he said he had taught them all they needed to win and they didn't need a coach for the week - and he was right.

My best memory of Rip was going to Quenbeyan to watch the Knights flegg side play Canberra, and the then suspended Dane Tilse came over to say hi to a few of his mates in the stand and had a few laughs etc - then obviously had some worries to get off his chest, so asked Rip for a word. The two of them went to a quiet spot in the stands and talked for an hour, and it was obvious the big guy was unburdening himself of all the worries in the world and Rip was getting him through it. Tilse meant nothing to Taylor in a professional sense at the time, and he had a whole team of his own players to look after, but he made all the time the big guy needed. He isn't just a coach, he is a great dad to these kids.

might have just been Fairleigh then

I thought it was both
Taylor was definately offered his same job back - and why wouldn't he be. His Flegg side had gone nearly the whole season without a loss and Smith signed every one of his regular players for the next season - and has 5 or six of them in firstgrade now.
I actually think he would be better used by you guys as a Flegg coach. He is the guy to change boys into men.

I heard that Brian Smith walked in and told everyone that they were crap, told Joey he was over the hill, said Paul Harragon was always over-rated and didn't deserve to play Origin ever, then said that the ARL made Manly throw the '97 Grand Final for good publicity and that the Eels were robbed in 2001.

And now he wonders why no-one likes him.

Seriously guys, sensible discussion on people's negatives is one thing, pulling out unconfirmed rumours and innuendo is another.
