Peterson is from WA
while it is technically true he was a senior when he came to the knights at age 21 from WA, he didn't know much about football and had to learn how to play at the Knights.

I figure he's not a Newcastle junior, but what's Inglis' story? Did he play in one of the CHS teams at one stage?

Inglis is a Taree boy who was signed by Melbourne when he was 14 or so and came down to go to Hunter Sports high for 2 years and played in the same Wests juniors side as Mullen and Walsh apparently. The Knights never made him an offer because he was already contracted to the Storm. He left Newcastle to go back home to Taree and says it was because he was getting into a 'bad crowd' at Newcastle - and Melbourne found him a Qld cup side where he made his senior debut within weeks of going there (making him a Qlder apparently).

The Willie Mason story - He was a Wangi Warriors/Macquarie junior who played a year or two for Valentine when they were a de facto Knights junior breeding club (before the Knights started sending juniors to Wests). He never played for the Knights, but was picked up for the lower grades of the Hunter Mariners during the super league era.

my girlfriend at the time went to school with, and was in the same year/social group as, big Willie. Nice guy, but ADD would be an understatement. One of those guys that picks on someone and thinks he is being funny, and then feels terrible when he realises he has hurt them.

he tried out for the Knights and didn't make the cut ( for as much political as attitude reasons, he always had the ability), this was at the time of the schism, and the defectors there remembered him and pulled him over to the Mariners. He has hated the Knights ever since.

I think he only played a year for Valentine, and IIRC that was because the Mariners pulled him out of Macquarie and put him there for better coaching - Valentine was (and is, along with the maggots) as close to a "professional" junior club as you can get, whereas the scorps were (and prob still are) a really amateur setup.

Correction!

Inglis is a Macksville boy - went to primary school with some of my high school mates. I imagine soon after those days he made more frequent trips south given that the Storm signed him up at such a young age.

What about the likes of Brett Kimmorley, Williw Mason and Luke Burt (All products of the Newcaslte RL System). Didnt Greg Inglis also play for hunter Sports High. That would also make him a Newcastle Junior
