I sincerely don't care how we get quality players as long as we do.

The important thing is the end, not the means to me and 90% of other supporters for the club I reckon.

The issue is that Tinkler is not yet the owner of Newcastle and therefore him or associated parties meddling in player movements should not be allowed to occur.

The denials from his management group and Newcastle are quite laughable too. Im not sure why they bother with these concocted bullsh*t statements. What are they going to follow up with when he's running out on the field in a Newcastle jersey next year? Some other ridiculous statement no doubt, just like South Sydney.

How foolish are the sharks though, in this day and age as if you'd hold a press conference unless the contract is signed and sealed and registered with the NRL.

If Souths can sign Inglis through a dodgy third party deal that allegedly makes him a role model for WA aboriginals who have never heard of him, all bets are off.
I'm a bit sorry that the Sharks are our 'victims', but rich clubs have been doing it to us for years.
Bingo. Swings and roundabouts and all that.

I think it's a bit ironic that this is pretty much the reason why my hatred for Souffs and Melbourne originated. Now we could be as bad as them

Is whats important.

Not the means.

If we have to be ruthless to be at the top, well we are just like every club that consistantly has success and not bottom 8 finish's.

My personal opinion (not trolling, I just know you're all dying to know what it is)... if Snowden ends up at the Knights now, the whole thing will stink to high hell.

Tinkler is in no way associated with the Newcastle Knights, therefore he cannot offer contracts to players on their behalf.

And seriously, do you guys want to be paying $500k a season for a prop? He's a very good player no doubt, but he's not worth Hayne-like money.

The other point is that if Tinkler has made this offer (although they have issued the predictable denials), then how likely is it that he knows the full salary cap situation of the Knights going forward? Pretty slim I would have thought. That makes it unbelievably irresponsible and could seriously f**k up your retention of players for next year and beyond.

lol at the 'predictable denial' remarks

as though some 'predictable' media speculation is more trustworthy than an outright denial by a professional business organisation

tinkler didnt get to where he is by making mistakes of the nature that will ruin his chance to get what he wants

Quote: "The TSG is not in a position to do that and it would be disrespectful to the members of the Knights if we were to enter the playing arena before the members have the right to vote."

lets not kid ourselves

he isn't superman

he got hit up the arse by a rainbow when his speculation on a mining lease paid off and commodity prices exploded

good on him, but it isn't quite the same as being an amazing innovator.

cue b-dos "lol he has lotz of monies he must be smrt"

and while I feel for the sharks, my primary concern here is what this says about his approach to negotiations with us.

I want an owner who plays a straight bat with his stakeholders (us). If he isn't playing a straight bat with others, it has to put doubt in the mind.

An interesting few weeks ahead.

he is a very successful business man mac

do you deny that?

people dont acheive that success by being morons

jealousy however can make some people who havent achieved such success attribute it all to luck.

Mac - I can handle him being called "lucky" for one deal that has come off. Three or four isn't luck - it is smart and astute.

Look...if he has called Kade and told him to hold off until he takes ownership of the club - I have no problems with that. I don't even care if he has told him that he has third party sponsors available to him whether he buys the club or not. If that is what he is prepared to do to get us the players we need, then brilliant.

I agree there is a way that business should be done. We don't know whether he told the club what he was going to do or not - both the club and Tinkler are denying it to the media so we will never know. We are talking about an absolute last minute play to save a deal from a guy who will most likely buy the club. No contracts have been signed without the club knowing. It isn't as bad as what people here are making it out to be.

What this is a sign of is that the club in its new form is going out there, being agressive and not letting other clubs walk all over us like it has been in the past. Go on...admit it...it's a little bit exciting isn't it?

:)

Easier to make money when you already have it guys.

I will say it again, he isn't superman.

Yes, exciting - but also worrying and confusing.

I just hope we come out with a great result here.

If he signs with the Knights im happy for him to play for Gymea for the rest of the year considering what he was quoted saying.
If he leaves so be it, we'll survive, we've got the NYC prop of the year coming through the ranks :)

dont be worried mac

this is how clubs who dont operate like a directionless rabble run

i know its a big change from what we've dealt with all these years so such proactive and driven actions might appear confusing at first.

just embrace it

The thing is the first deal that he pulled off - he didn't have it. Could have easily ended up bankrupt. The second deal he made could have brought him under as well, but made it work.

The guy is astute. Look at the deals he is doing that looks to be alturistic - they aren't deals that are going to cost him a lot of money (if the Hunter Street thing is right that will make him plenty of money), but they are buying him goodwill that you can't buy in a place like Newcastle. The Knights in the long-term will make him money. The Jets will make him money. Even Patinack will make him money in the long run (just a whole heap of up-front cost). These are not dumb investments.

The guy is smart, and I don't think he gets the credit that he deserves. People would rather play him down as a guy who got rich through luck and is burning it away on the ponies and football clubs. It just isn't correct - far from it.

Correct me if I'm wrong but Tinkler found something noone else wanted, managed to convince investors to give him $50 million to get that mine started when he was a nobody and made a motza. He's a bloody genius. Commodity prices have been high for a decade now and will remain that way for a looooong time.

You are right that he has stones the size of watermellons.

Maybe it isn't his "intellect" I am dubious about.
