note that Shannon McDonnell is still a backup dancer for Nikki Webster

and, unfortunately, I am telling the truth

I saw him easily run down Timana a few years back so he must havge some speed. I'd dare say he wouldn't be far off Aku over 100m

I dare say he isnt close to Aku's pace With the ball/without the ball/or juggling the thing on his head. Not close at all.

His signing is an insult to about 5 players in our current roster. Whatever money he is being paid should of been used as a cash incentive to keep aku/waltzing & or Faas.

not happy.

About how fast would Uate be now, compared to when he was a teenager?

And would he be the fastest in the club over all distances, say, 40m, 100m etc.?

Obviously he's bloody fast, was moving at a fair clip last week, even on a wet track with a ball in hand. Still, just wondering if he'll come back to the field a bit as he gets older - does he still stand out amongst the competition?

I mean there's no way he's quicker than Aku but I'd say he'd be as quick as anyone else at the club

Over 10 meters maybe.

His speed really is a myth ( gee I hate that word, but could think of no other )...

Some lads I know involved with the Tigers club actually believe he used to have alot of toe in his young days, and has actually gotten slower year to year ever since.

Not overly great considering he is still only 21. ( And looks 30 ) Especially considering the only real thing that he used to have going for him was speed.

And now , if he doesn't even have that anymore - god help us all.

Aku would be running mid to high 10s these days. He is heavier and has taken focus off pure sprint work.

Aku is fastest over all distances at the Knights.

You have to consider digital times compared to stopwatch times when players and Clubs boast speeds. A manual time can vary .5-1 second either way.

Also when a player is in the clear keep in mind the fullback coming across and the fact he may be positioning his support and the like. Just because he is run down from behind does not mean he is slower in all cases.

Interesting...Aku looked to me like he is at his best compared to others from about 20-30m onwards after he's taken those first half a dozen strides...and I was going to suggest that guys like Mullo would be close behind him over the first 20-30m as a result. But there you go!

Any discussion about McDonnell's speed is totally irrelevant. Sharron needs to learn how to catch and tackle first.

Each time this goose makes a line break he will a) trip over himself; b) drop the ball; or c) both of the above.

Sorry Knights, but you would have got more value out of giving the $100k to your ball boys to spend on hot dogs!

Doubt it, our ball boys are tubbers already. More hotdogs is not the answer.

Better off throwing the cash to the weaher forecaster so we can get the wind in both directions...... :)

We can teach him to tackle.

We can teach him to catch.

Tripping over his own feet is a worry.

I feel sorry for the kid already reading this thread. I hope he comes out and plays well.

Brian Smith has faith in Knights new boy Shannon McDonnell

BY BRETT KEEBLE

HE arrived on Thursday, trained for the first time with his new teammates yesterday, and is preparing to make his Newcastle debut against Gold Coast at EnergyAustralia Stadium tomorrow.Whether Shannon McDonnell plays against the Titans will depend on the fitness of fullback Kurt Gidley, who played for Australia against New Zealand in Brisbane last night, but coach Brian Smith has no qualms about using the Tigers recruit if required.
Smith said 21-year-old McDonnell is on standby for Gidley, and Keith Lulia and Ben Rogers are the shadow players for Country Origin representatives James McManus and Jarrod Mullen after Rogers was cleared yesterday to return from a knee injury.
Even if Mullen backs up, Rogers could still replace George Ndairaon the bench, but Smith will wait until today's final training run to make that decision.
McDonnell has a perfect record at EAS, having played in the Tigers' 38-26 and 33-14 victories on Newcastle soil in the past two years, and despite often torrential rain at training yesterday he was surprised how comfortable he felt among so many unfamiliar faces.
"I like the vibe around the team and their free style of play. All the blokes have been welcoming and the staff are all good," the former junior representative teammate of Mullen, Cory Paterson and Scott Dureau said.
"I've been given an opportunity to play for the rest of the year and whatever happens after that, I'll take, but I'm really looking forward to coming up here and experiencing something different. The Knights have got good culture, good fans, and I love being here.
"I'm just preparing the best I can and play whenever I can. Obviously Kurt is cemented and solid as the number one fullback so I'll just play if he's in rep games or whenever I'm given the chance.
"With the free style the Knights play, Brian's given me a lot of good advice about where to stand and how to play my style of game so it's been good it's been surprisingly easier than what I thought."
Smith said McDonnell was unlikely to play for the Knights beyond this year because there would almost certainly be better offers from Super League or other NRL clubs, "but we know what we want from him and he knows what we're expecting of him".
"He's not here for a haircut. He's here to play if Kurt's not right, so we'll get him going as soon as we can," Smith said.
"We know his game, what style he is, and he doesn't really need to change.
"The combinations with our players will obviously improve the more he trains and plays with us, but we just want him to do the job he does naturally the thing that I've been watching him do since he was 16 or 17.
Smith said having McDonnell available would help cover Gidley's absence during the representative season.
"We missed the play-offs last year by just one win so maybe if we'd have had that support for him last year, that might have made a difference and I wasn't going to let it happen again if we could avoid it," he said.
"Having a player to come in who's a quality fullback, someone who knows and has played in the NRL at fullback and knows what the job is, as head coach I'll maybe get a bit more sleep at night over this rep season and towards the back end of the year."
The Knights led 14-0 close to half-time in their first-round meeting with the Titans at Skilled Park but wilted in the heat and lost 34-20.
"We'd certainly like to get square about that. We were disappointed that they were able to finish over the top of us in that game, but I think the weather conditions are likely to be different and, definitely, the crowd is going to be different," Smith said.
"They're playing on our patch this time so I hope our boys will bear that in mind if we do happen to get into the lead early in the game [and] we keep our foot on the pedal."
Titans pocket dynamo Preston Campbell was in doubt earlier in the week with rib cartilage damage but has trained for most of the week and is expected to play.
Bench prop Aaron Cannings (knee) and Australian Test forwards Anthony Laffranchi and Luke Bailey will be checked before the team flies to Newcastle.
It will be the Titans' first session at their new Station Reserve training complex at Robina, adjacent to their home ground.
Coach John Cartwright and back-rower Mark Minichiello will join the team in Newcastle after completing their commitments with City Origin at Orange last night.

Bolded part is good to hear :D

I'm going to wait until I see a game from him before I go crying out for his head. He could prove us all wrong and here's hoping he does.

How could you want him to fail? What a stupid thing to say. I hope he does come in and make a few people look like idiots.

Who wants to look like an idiot? Jeez... Anyways I wanted to say for a long time forums are a funny thing. Not that is topic based; I am acutally on alot of forums, football, soccer other games forums, computer forums whatever whatever right... I am acutally the voice of reason on most of these forums and am generally well liked!:D

HOWEVER only on this forum I am some crazy maniac who is the laughing stock of all. I also take this forum the most seroius as I love the Knights more than any other sports team in the world. Why is this? Is there some sort of physchoanalysis done on forum users? Why is this so?

I am usually a very sane guy and in all honesty I acutally am being seorius when I say alot of the things that I do say. Obviously I do say things to be crazy and funny (well I think its funny) when did I become the crazy guy who doesnt make sense?

Thanks for making me crazy, I wasnt crazy to begin with you guys made me crazy. Thanks,

Cheers,
Yosh

I dont hope he fails - I just think he was an unneccessary signing and expect him to be mediocre.
