This is what we get for not playing our key players. Paterson should've been allowed to play a month ago. MacDougall was ready to play last week. 2 weeks ago we were looking good for the top 4, now we'll be lucky to stay in the 8

Warriors beat Knights 13-0 in Auckland

Tamara Mclean
June 12, 2009 - 8:29PM

Warriors sensation Kevin Locke put the icing on a tough 13-0 victory over the Newcastle Knights in the round 14 NRL clash in Auckland on Friday night.

With just 10 second to go, the winger scored a runaway try to seal a hard-fought win in the rain. He then kicked the extras to put the final nail in Newcastle's coffin.

The two-try-to-none victory was desperately needed by the Kiwi side, who were placed 12th and painfully close to waving their finals chances goodbye.

The Knights, meanwhile, appeared to have few clues on attack and spent most of the match defending their line in cold, rain-soaked conditions in front of 14,255 diehard Kiwi fans at Mt Smart Stadium.

They clearly missed their injured star skipper, Kurt Gidley, and got bad news early on with the loss of winger James McManus with a possibly season-ending Achilles tear.

But despite the overwhelming amount of Kiwi possession, the Warriors could only cross the Knights' line twice.

Makeshift five-eighth Lance Hohaia burrowed over for the first try after just five minutes.

Locke, 20, converted for the Warriors to go into the break six points up.
The second half started with balanced 30-minute arm wrestle, both sides battling it out unsuccessfully to lay the ball down.

In the 71st minute the Warriors set up close to the Newcastle line, allowing Hohaia to kick a field goal, but it was Locke who stole the show with his last minute dash over the line.

Veteran Warriors halfback Stacey Jones used his 250th NRL appearance to play arguably his best kicking game of the season to date, answering critics who questioned the 32-year-old's return from retirement.

Great, another one gone...

Yes we have a dilemma in the halves situation in that we have sh*t and sh*tter competing for a spot alongside Mullen.

Having said that, how can you possibly single out him tonight with a straight face?

At least he is having a go, which is more than we can say about a few of his team mates.

What suprises me is how Wes Naiqama can accept his paycheck without feeling like he should really give it back to the club.

What surprises me is even in the games the boys play bad they still remain competitive or even win
I agree. We have lost two in a row and played our worst of the season, but we were right in both games till very near the end.

I think the great Uate experiment is over. The guy offers nothing in both attack and defence. Rogers was very ordinary tonight but I am not quite ready to call for his head yet. House, Zeb and Wicksy were our best tonight I thought and Hilder was decent as well.

Mate, seriously, who wasn't ordinary?

The entire game was ordinary. The Warriors were ordinary for gods sake!

It is one of those games. Both teams were crap. The weather was crap. The game was crap.

It doesn't take Einstein to figure out that it just wasn't one of those nights.

To single out anyone tonight ( other than Wes Naiqama who is just woeful week in week out ), is plain stupid but it will no doubt happen.

The difference is,the anti Dureau fans recognise that Rogers is pretty sh*t too, while too many Dureau fans actually think Dureau has first grade ability long term.

There's been games where the Storm have gone to NZ in similar weather and lost 4-2. A couple of weeks ago, the Tigers who are one of the more higher scoring teams scored 0 points in NZ in similar weather too...

It's hardly an indicative game of where we are at - any of the players. ( Wes not included because his form has been ordinary every week )

The three I mentioned weren't ordinary. I thought they played as well as their opposition and the conditions allowed.

Nah you're right, there was some credible efforts, but overall , the whole game was flat which didn't help matters.

It was a dour, boring, wet weather game, that went the way many of those kinda games do - with the home team used to the conditions...

Even little things like wearing the right boots tonight came into play.

How often did the Knights players slip over?

Going by the stats Hilder was a work-horse.

NRL stats had him at 60+ tackles and 8 hitups.

And De Gois made plenty too.

Between the 2 of them they made over 120 tackles.

Add in Simpson with 40 odd, and it shows what kinda game it was.

That was truly excruciating to watch. The second half was a better effort but frankly, it was still abysmal. I agree that saying anyone other than Wes was overly poor is harsh because they were all about as useful as a paper mache riot shield. Rogers, Mullen and De Gois had shockers. Wicks and Faas were our best players IMO and if Faas got that ball down over the line, the game would've turned out differently. Wes needs to f**k off now. I don't care where or who comes in for him: he is consistently an abosolute dog's breakfast of a player. It is not THAT hard to run forward.
